Why an Anguilla Passport's Exact Wording Decides Your Dubai Visa Route

Which UAE Visa Category Applies to an Anguilla-Issued Passport?

Anguillians travelling on a full British Citizen passport can collect a free UAE visitor visa on arrival, stamped for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. If your passport instead reads British Overseas Territories Citizen only, UAE entry regulations require that visa to be arranged before you fly, not on arrival.

This split exists because Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory, and most residents connected to it hold British Citizenship automatically under the British Overseas Territories Act 2002, alongside their British Overseas Territories Citizen status. The exact wording printed on your passport's data page — not just the fact that it says "British" — decides which route applies, so check it before booking a Dubai visitor visa for Anguilla citizens. Whichever category applies, your passport needs at least six months' validity left from your arrival date, and since 11 February 2026 the UAE no longer allows any overstay grace period anywhere: fines run at AED 50 a day from the first day past your visa's expiry.

No UAE Mission Sits on the Island — Here's Who Actually Helps

Anguilla has no UAE embassy or consulate of its own, and the nearest UAE missions covering this part of the Caribbean sit in Havana, Bogotá, Panama City and Washington, D.C. — any of these can field a visa question before you travel. Once you're in the UAE itself, support runs through Britain rather than Anguilla, since the territory keeps no diplomatic missions abroad. The British Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the British Embassy Dubai branch office on Al Seef Road, Bur Dubai handle passports, emergencies and welfare cases for British nationals, Anguillians included.

For urgent help, call +971 4 309 4444 (Dubai) or +971 2 610 1100 (Abu Dhabi), or the UK's 24-hour line on +44 20 7008 5000.

Connecting Through a Regional Hub to Reach Dubai

Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA), Anguilla's only airport, has no nonstop or direct long-haul service, so there's no way to fly straight from the island to Dubai International (DXB) or Al Maktoum International (DWC). Nearly every Anguilla to Dubai flight itinerary starts with a short regional hop — commonly through Sint Maarten's Princess Juliana International, San Juan, or Antigua — before joining a long-haul carrier from a major gateway such as Miami, New York or London for the final leg. Build in a generous layover for that first connection, since Anguilla's flight schedule is thin and delays there can cascade through the rest of the trip.

Plan Around Hurricane Season, Not Just Dubai's Heat

Anguilla sits in the Atlantic hurricane belt, with the season running roughly June through November, while Dubai's own most comfortable stretch for sightseeing falls from November to March, once the summer heat eases. Booking a Dubai trip inside that window works in your favour twice over: you sidestep the months when storms are most likely to disrupt flights out of Anguilla, and you land in Dubai during its mildest, most walkable weather.

Two Pegged Currencies Make the Budget Math Simple

Anguilla's Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD) has been pegged to the US dollar at EC$2.70 since 1976, and the UAE Dirham (AED) has held its own US dollar peg at roughly AED 3.67 since 1997. Because both currencies track the dollar rather than floating against each other, the XCD-to-AED rate barely moves — a rough constant of about AED 1.36 per EC dollar — so there's no exchange-rate guessing game before a Dubai trip. Your EC dollars themselves won't be accepted in Dubai, though; convert to AED or carry a card, and keep some Dirham cash on hand for taxis and souks.
