Flying from Sarajevo to Dubai
Sarajevo has a non-stop link to the Gulf: flydubai flies from Sarajevo International Airport to Terminal 2 at Dubai International in about five and a half hours, and the return leg takes roughly six. The number of weekly flights changes through the year, so check the timetable before fixing dates. Dubai is two hours ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina in summer and three hours ahead in winter.
One-stop routes through Istanbul on Turkish Airlines are the other common option. Some European airlines suspended their Dubai services amid the 2026 regional conflict and are bringing them back gradually, so confirm that any connection is actually operating. Do you need a visa before you go?
No. Since 6 December 2023, a visa exemption agreement has let holders of ordinary Bosnia and Herzegovina passports enter the UAE without a visa. Your passport is stamped free of charge at the airport, and you can stay for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, for tourism, business or short visits.
The agreement was signed on 6 November 2023, during Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković's visit to the UAE, and took effect a month later. Immigration advisers Fragomen noted that visitors should also hold valid health insurance. Business meetings fit within the exemption, but taking up a job or studying in the UAE still requires a separate visa.

The embassy in Abu Dhabi handles passport matters
Bosnia and Herzegovina's diplomatic mission in the UAE is its embassy in Abu Dhabi, which is also accredited to Bahrain. Its consular desk takes passport applications by appointment, so plan ahead if your passport will need renewing while you are in the Gulf. No separate consulate is listed in Dubai, so Dubai-based travellers should allow time for the trip to the capital.
In the other direction, the UAE's ambassador in Podgorica, Montenegro, has been accredited to Bosnia and Herzegovina as a non-resident envoy, and the Podgorica embassy announced the 2023 exemption. Bring euros rather than convertible marks
The convertible mark is fixed to the euro at 1.95583 marks per euro, a link inherited from the Deutsche Mark. The UAE dirham, by contrast, is pegged to the US dollar, so the value of your marks in dirhams moves with the euro–dollar rate. Check the day's rate before changing money. Because the mark tracks the euro, euros are the natural cash to take.
Dubai's cool season, Sarajevo's coldest months
Sarajevo averages 0.6°C in January, with about ten snowy days, while Dubai's January highs sit around 24°C. Even Sarajevo's average January maximum is only about 4°C. That makes November to March, when Sarajevo is at its coldest, the easiest months for sightseeing in Dubai. Summer reverses the picture: Sarajevo's July highs average about 28°C, against 41°C in Dubai.
