Brunei Passport in Hand? Dubai Stamps It Free for 30 Days

Brunei passport holders have one of the simpler arrivals in Dubai. Brunei is among the nationalities that need no advance visa for the UAE, so the Dubai visa for Brunei citizens is a free 30-day stamp given at immigration. The journey is the harder part at the moment. Royal Brunei has paused its Dubai flights, so every trip from Bandar Seri Begawan currently means changing planes on the way.

Swapping Brunei's wettest months for Dubai's mildest

November to January is Brunei's wettest stretch. Bandar Seri Begawan averages roughly 320 to 360 mm of rain in each of those months, based on World Meteorological Organization climate normals. Dubai is at its most pleasant at the same time. Average highs sit between 24 and 26°C from December to February, and December and January each see under 20 mm of rain. Summer is a different story, with July and August average highs above 41°C.

Brunei dollars follow Singapore's, not the dirham

Under the 1967 Currency Interchangeability Agreement, the Brunei dollar is interchangeable with the Singapore dollar at par, one for one. The UAE dirham is tied to a different anchor: the US dollar, at 3.6725 dirhams. The Singapore dollar has no fixed rate against the US dollar, which means the number of dirhams your Brunei dollars buy changes from day to day. Check the current rate before you exchange cash, and don't rely on a figure from an earlier trip.

What happens when you land on a Brunei passport?

No visa is needed in advance. Brunei citizens get their visa at the airport. UAE immigration stamps a free 30-day visit visa into your Brunei passport when you land in Dubai, valid from your day of entry. It covers visits only; a job or a course of study needs another type of visa.

The Dubai visa requirements for Brunei therefore depend on the travel document you carry. There is no Dubai tourist visa from Brunei to buy before a holiday, because the Dubai visa for Brunei passport holders is the arrival stamp itself. Stateless permanent residents who travel on a Brunei International Certificate of Identity (ICI) do not share the passport's visa exemptions, so the free stamp does not cover them.

Anyone travelling with you on a non-Brunei passport should arrange a visa before departure, and ICI holders should also confirm that the UAE accepts their certificate. Our step-by-step guide to applying for a Dubai visa online walks through the process, and once a file is submitted you can see where the application stands.

Plan a connection while Royal Brunei's Dubai flights are paused

Royal Brunei used to stop in Dubai on its way to London Heathrow. The security situation in the Middle East made that stop unviable in March 2026, and the airline replaced it with a non-stop Brunei–London service three times a week. In a notice dated 17 August 2026, it said Dubai flights will stay suspended until 28 March 2027.

Until then, plan on one stop. Royal Brunei and Singapore Airlines fly from Bandar Seri Begawan to Singapore, while Royal Brunei and AirAsia serve Kuala Lumpur. Emirates flies on to Dubai from both cities, and Batik Air Malaysia also links Kuala Lumpur with Dubai. Several airlines are still restoring Gulf services after the regional conflict, so confirm your connection is running before you pay. Dubai is four hours behind Brunei all year.

A reroute can move your departure date. If a travel companion's visa is still pending and the new date is close, our express visa service for short-notice trips handles urgent cases. Approval always rests with the UAE immigration authority.

Help from Brunei's embassy in Al Bateen

Brunei is represented in the UAE by the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Abu Dhabi, at Villa 2B2 (8) As Silbar Street, Al Bateen. It is open Monday to Thursday from 8am to 2.30pm and on Friday from 8am to noon. Phone +971 2 448 6999 or email abudhabi.uae@mfa.gov.bn; the embassy also lists a hotline on +971 50 641 3478. Brunei has no consulate in Dubai, so any visit in person means travelling to Abu Dhabi.

The UAE does not have an embassy in Brunei. Its embassy in Kuala Lumpur is accredited to Brunei and takes email at kualalumpuremb@mofa.gov.ae.
