No Nonstop Flight Beats a Clean One-Stop Through Addis Ababa

Bangui's M'Poko International Airport has no nonstop connection to Dubai — the roughly 4,500-kilometre distance between the two cities isn't the obstacle so much as the lack of any airline willing to fly it directly. The cleanest workaround is Ethiopian Airlines' own network: a nonstop hop from Bangui to Addis Ababa, followed by one of Ethiopian's frequent onward flights into Dubai International, all on the same carrier's connecting itinerary. Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines also serve Bangui, both routed through Douala in Cameroon rather than directly, which usually means a second connection rather than one. Staying inside the transit area at Addis Ababa doesn't require an Ethiopian visa regardless of nationality — that only becomes necessary if the layover is long enough to justify leaving the airport.

Standard Visa Rules Apply, Despite a One-Sided 2019 Waiver

A Central African passport doesn't unlock anything special at UAE immigration — the standard advance visa route applies, arranged before departure like most other nationalities. That's despite a 2019 agreement between the two countries billed as a "Mutual Visa Waiver" when it was signed in Abu Dhabi: in practice, it only removed the pre-entry visa requirement for UAE passport holders travelling to the Central African Republic, letting them stay up to 90 days. Why CAR Actually Has Its Own Consul in Dubai

Most small or lower-traffic nationalities rely on a non-resident ambassador covering several countries from somewhere else entirely, and the UAE's own relationship with the Central African Republic works exactly that way — its ambassador to the country is based at the UAE's embassy in N'Djamena, Chad, not in Bangui. That fixed relationship is with the euro specifically, though, not the dirham, and the UAE dirham is itself pegged to the US dollar rather than the euro. Planning Around Bangui's Wet Season

Bangui sits close enough to the equator that its wettest months — roughly April through October — bring heavy, near-daily rain rather than a single defined rainy season, while November through March is comparatively dry. That drier stretch also happens to line up with Dubai's own most comfortable travelling months, so a trip planned around Bangui's better weather tends to land in Dubai's better weather too, rather than trading one for the other the way some routes do.
