Chad to Dubai: Visa First, Then a Connecting Flight
For Chadian travellers, a trip to Dubai starts well before departure day. The Dubai visa for Chad citizens must be arranged in advance — the UAE immigration authority does not issue a visa on arrival to Chadian passport holders — and since N'Djamena has no nonstop flight to Dubai, the journey itself will involve at least one connection. None of this makes the trip complicated; it just means the planning happens in a different order than it would for a traveller who can simply land and get stamped in. Here's what else is worth knowing once you've picked a visa type and gathered the documents listed above.
Why Chadian Passport Holders Need to Apply Before Flying
Chad is not on the UAE's visa-on-arrival list, so every traveller covered by the Dubai visa requirements for Chad needs an approved e-visa before boarding. That's not unusual — most African passports face the same rule — but it does mean the visa needs to clear before flight dates get locked in, not after.
Business travel between the two countries has also picked up recently. The UAE and Chad signed a package of trade and investment agreements in Abu Dhabi in November 2025 as part of Chad's “Chad Connection 2030” development plan, and a growing share of applicants now travel for meetings tied to that partnership rather than tourism alone. If a conference or business meeting is the actual reason for the trip, say so on the application — the business visa category above is the right fit, not the tourist option — and if the dates are tight, the Dubai Express Visa Application can shorten the wait on approval.
Getting Consular Help Without Flying Home
Chad has operated an embassy in Abu Dhabi since 2018, giving Chadian nationals in the UAE a diplomatic point of contact without routing every problem back through N'Djamena. For anything visa-related, though, the first stop should be How to Apply for Dubai Visa or Dubai Visa Status Check — the embassy handles Chadian civil matters like passport renewal, not UAE immigration decisions, which sit entirely with UAE authorities.
No Nonstop Flight? Here's How the Route Usually Works
There's currently no nonstop option on Chad to Dubai flights — every route involves at least one stop, most commonly through Addis Ababa with Ethiopian Airlines, with the full journey including the layover running around 10 to 11 hours. Options via Cairo or Istanbul also turn up in searches, usually adding more time rather than less. A few things worth building into the plan:
- Book the Dubai-bound leg with enough buffer that a delayed first flight doesn't strand you overnight in the connecting city
- If a layover is long enough to require clearing immigration there, that country's own transit rules are separate from a Dubai tourist visa from Chad and worth checking directly with them
- Keep the visa approval and return-ticket details somewhere accessible mid-journey, since check-in staff at the connecting airport may ask to see them before boarding the Dubai-bound flight
Best Months to Travel, Based on Chad's Own Seasons
N'Djamena's dry season runs roughly November through February — cooler, low-humidity days that make getting to and from the airport straightforward. That window lines up well with Dubai's own most comfortable stretch for outdoor plans, before the Gulf heat builds back up from around April. Travelling outside N'Djamena's July-to-September rainy-season peak also sidesteps the heavier local rain that can occasionally disrupt travel to N'Djamena's own airport.
What Your CFA Francs Are Actually Worth There
Chad's currency, the Central African CFA franc (XAF), is fixed to the euro at 655.957 francs per euro — it doesn't float the way many currencies do. The catch for budgeting: since the UAE dirham is pegged to the US dollar, and the dollar-euro rate moves daily, there's no fixed XAF-to-dirham figure worth memorising. Check the rate close to the travel date rather than relying on one seen months earlier, and note that CFA francs aren't exchanged inside the UAE — convert to euros or dollars beforehand, or plan to rely on a card instead.
