Moldovan Passport Holders in Dubai: The New 90-Day Entry
Moldovan citizens no longer need a visa for a short trip to Dubai. The UAE recently added Moldova to its visa-free group, and a Moldovan passport is now stamped on arrival with a multiple-entry permit lasting half a year, during which a Moldovan may be in the country for 90 days altogether. The only preparation is a passport that still has six months to run. A visa from us only becomes relevant if you plan to stay past those 90 days, or if someone travelling with you holds a passport that is not exempt, and for them a 30-day single entry visa is where most applications begin.
That change matters, because many Moldovans still remember when a Dubai visa for Moldovans had to be sponsored and approved before every trip. For most holidays, that step has gone.
Dubai Visa for Moldovans: The Switch to Visa-Free Entry
The Embassy of Moldova in Abu Dhabi announced that Moldovan citizens can travel to the UAE without a visa for up to 90 days, and airlines now list Moldova alongside the European countries in the 90-day group. The UAE's official visa-on-arrival information explains how these groups work.
In practice, you check in at Chișinău, show your passport at Dubai passport control, and receive the stamp. There is no online form, no sponsor and no fee to pay before departure. The stamp covers tourism, family visits and business meetings, but not employment.
How the 90 Days Work on a Moldovan Dubai Visit Visa Stamp
The permit runs for six months from the first entry, and within those six months the total time spent in the country cannot exceed 90 days. It allows multiple entries, so the days can be split across trips.
| Your trips within six months | Days used | Days left |
|---|---|---|
| One two-week holiday | 14 | 76 |
| Three 20-day family visits | 60 | 30 |
| One long stay with relatives | 90 | 0 |
The entry and exit stamps in your passport are the record, so a quick tally before each new trip avoids surprises at the border.
Dual-Citizen Moldovans and the Dubai Visa Stamp
A large number of Moldovans also hold Romanian citizenship. As EU citizens, Romanian passport holders are visa-free for 90 days too, so either passport gets you in without a visa. The important point is consistency: book the flight, enter Dubai and leave Dubai on the same passport. Switching passports between entry and exit creates records that do not match, and a second passport is no route to extra days.
If one of your passports is close to expiry, travel on the other; the six-month validity rule applies to whichever one you present. If either passport needs renewing, start early, because that rule leaves little slack.
What to Pack With a Moldovan Passport on a Dubai Visa-Free Trip
- The passport, with six months or more left on it; the Moldovan identity card will not get you onto a Dubai flight.
- Your return or onward ticket.
- Hotel details, or where your relatives live plus a number to reach them.
- Travel medical insurance, since treatment in Dubai is private and can be costly.
- Prescriptions in English for any regular medication, with the medicine in its original box.
Children From Moldova and the Dubai Visa Stamp
Every child needs a Moldovan passport of their own and receives their own entry stamp. Moldova has its own rules for minors leaving the country without both parents; confirm what the Border Police currently ask for before the trip; that paperwork is separate from Dubai and is checked when you leave Chișinău.
Flying From Chișinău on the Dubai Visa-Free Route
Chișinău International Airport, which now uses the code RMO, has nonstop flydubai flights to Dubai several times a week, taking a little over five hours. Other routings connect through hubs such as Istanbul or Bucharest, which can help if your dates do not match the direct schedule.
Moldovan clocks move for summer time while Dubai's never do, so the gap is two hours from late October to late March and one hour the rest of the year. Check flight times carefully around the end of March and the end of October, when the gap changes.
Booking the Return Within the Dubai Visa-Free Allowance
Direct flights to Chișinău do not run every day, so the return date needs more thought than on a busy route. Pick a flight that lands you home with a few days to spare inside the 90 days, rather than the last direct departure before the deadline. If that flight is cancelled, the next one might be several days later, and the extra days would count against you.
Moldovans Living in Italy and Their Dubai Visa Options
Many Moldovans live and work in Italy, and some prefer to fly to Dubai from Rome, Milan or Bologna rather than travelling home first. An Italian residence permit has no effect on Dubai entry: the Moldovan passport, or a Romanian one if you hold it, decides the rule. Remember that the residence permit itself may need to be valid for your return to Italy, which is an Italian rule rather than a Dubai one. Rome and Milan both have nonstop flights to Dubai, which can be quicker than a journey via Chișinău.
Moldovan Families in Canada and the Dubai Visa Rule
The same applies to Moldovans settled in Canada. Canadian permanent residence does not change the entry rule, and a Canadian passport, if you have one, is also in the 90-day group. Pick one passport for the whole trip.
Staying Past Day 90: Online Dubai Visit Visa Options for Moldovans
When all 90 days are spent, Moldovans may request a pre-arranged visit visa, the same option open to other Europeans in this group. Longer family stays become possible this way, provided the plan is made early. To apply for a Dubai visit visa online for the extra time, choose the option that matches the rest of your stay:
- An extra month, staying put: a 30-day single-entry visa.
- An extra month that includes a trip abroad: the 30-day multiple entry visa.
- Two extra months: the 60-day single entry visa, or its multiple entry version if you will travel in and out.
Every option shows its price in US dollars and its processing time on the visa card below. If you are already inside Dubai when the allowance is close to running out, ask about the 30-day option from inside the country or the 60-day option from inside the country, which depend on your status at the time.
Visiting Moldovan Relatives Who Work in Dubai on the Visa Stamp
A Moldovan community lives and works in the UAE, and many trips are family visits. If you are staying with a relative, save their full address and phone number before you fly, and agree who will meet you at arrivals. Hosts can help by sending a map pin of their building, which is often easier to follow than a street address.
Visitors on the stamp can stay with family for the whole 90 days, but the rule against working applies just the same; helping out informally in a relative's business for pay is still work.
Mixed Moldovan Households: Who Still Needs a Dubai Visa Application
Families in Moldova often include people with other citizenships, and the passport each person carries sets their rule:
- Russian passport holders are also in the 90-day group.
- Ukrainian passport holders receive a 30-day stay on arrival.
- Holders of passports that are on neither list need a visa approved before travel.
For anyone in the last group, the Dubai visa application is made online, and family files can be submitted together. Read how the application works before starting, and use the photo size guide to avoid the most common upload problem.
Working in Dubai Is Different: Moldovans, Jobs and the Dubai Visa Stamp
The visa-free stamp is for visits, not for employment. A Moldovan offered a job in Dubai must be sponsored by that employer for an employment visa; the visit stamp cannot be used to start work. Be cautious with any intermediary who promises a job but asks you to travel on the visit stamp and sort the paperwork out later, or who charges large fees for a so-called work visa. Genuine employers handle the sponsorship themselves, and a real job offer normally comes with an employment entry permit issued before you travel.
Short business trips are a different matter. Meetings, exhibitions, negotiations and supplier visits are covered by the stamp, and colleagues on visa-requiring passports can travel with a 14-day business visa.
Arrival Day: Using the Dubai Visa Stamp After the Flight From Chișinău
Flights from Chișinău arrive at Dubai International. At passport control your Moldovan passport is scanned and stamped; have the return ticket and the name of your hotel ready, should the officer want to know your plans. Look at the stamp before walking away, because its date starts both the six-month window and the 90-day count.
If your trip continues to Asia, a stopover in Dubai works the same way, with no transit visa needed on a Moldovan passport. Companions who need one can choose a transit visa valid for 48 hours or the 96-hour version for longer layovers.
Lei, Euros and Dirhams on a Dubai Visa-Free Trip From Moldova
Bank cards are accepted almost everywhere in Dubai, and ATMs dispense dirhams. If you want cash, it is usually simpler to bring euros or US dollars than to try exchanging lei, and licensed exchange houses in malls offer fair rates. Tell your bank about the trip so the first card payment abroad is not blocked as unusual. Keep exchange receipts in case you change leftover money back before flying home to Chișinău.
Winter Sun or Summer Heat: When Moldovans Use the Dubai Visa Stamp
The cooler months, from November to March, are the most pleasant time for a city break or beach holiday, and they suit Moldovans escaping the grey Chișinău winter. Orthodox Christmas and New Year are popular travel weeks, so book early. Moldovan school breaks in late December and early spring fall inside the comfortable season and make good windows for a family trip. Summer brings daytime heat well above 40°C, so a July or August trip works best for travellers who are happy to stay indoors in the middle of the day.
Common Errors Moldovans Make With the Dubai Visa Stamp
- Assuming a visa is still required and paying for one that is not needed.
- Entering on a Romanian passport and leaving on a Moldovan one.
- Counting each trip as a new 90 days.
- Flying with a passport due to expire within six months.
- Accepting a job offer that relies on the visit stamp.
The first one is the most common now that the rule has changed: if your passport is Moldovan and the trip is short, you can simply go.
Overstay Fines on a Moldovan Dubai Visa Stamp
An overstay is charged at AED 50 for each day past your limit, settled at the airport before departure, and no grace days should be expected. Keep your return date safely inside the 90 days, and if plans change while you are in Dubai, contact us well before the deadline rather than after it has passed.
