Do Argentines Need a Visa to Visit Dubai?
No — not on an ordinary Argentine passport. The UAE Embassy in Buenos Aires states that Argentine citizens need only their passport, valid for at least six more months at the time of travel, and may stay for a maximum of 90 days. There's no visa to arrange or pay for before you fly out of Ezeiza.
Argentina's own embassy in Abu Dhabi fills in the detail: the exemption applies to the ordinary passport issued by RENAPER, whether you're travelling as a tourist or on business. It also notes that entering as a tourist doesn't allow paid work in the UAE.
In practice, the UAE's visa requirements for Argentines come down to one document question: passport or DNI. Argentine government guidance is clear that the card DNI works only for trips to Mercosur and associated states — Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and the rest — with no stops outside the bloc, and that everywhere else needs a passport. Whatever you use for a weekend in Montevideo, Dubai needs the passport book.
Buenos Aires to Dubai: One Stop in Rio, Two Calendar Days
There's no nonstop on Emirates' timetable: its Buenos Aires to Dubai flight, EK248, leaves Ezeiza (EZE) in the late evening, stops at Rio de Janeiro's Galeão airport (GIG) and lands in Dubai just after midnight two calendar days later — about 19 hours in all. The return, EK247, takes roughly 20 hours; Dubai runs seven hours ahead of Buenos Aires, which explains the odd-looking dates.
The Rio stop doesn't make the DNI valid for this trip, because the journey ends outside Mercosur. And from Dubai the Emirates network carries on — Bangkok, Sydney and Delhi are among the airline's popular routes from Buenos Aires — so a Dubai connection doesn't always mean a Dubai visit.
Reaching Argentina's Embassy — and Checking Its Current Advice
Consular services for the whole UAE run from the Embassy of Argentina in Abu Dhabi, at Aminah bint Wahab Street, Villa 238, in the Al Karamah area; the consular section opens Monday to Friday, 08:00–15:00. The embassy's economic and commercial section has an office in Dubai, but consular matters go through Abu Dhabi. If your passport is lost or stolen, the embassy's instruction is to file a police report and then get in touch.
Check the Argentine embassy's website before booking. At the time of this update, it recommends that Argentines postpone non-essential and tourist travel to the UAE until the regional situation stabilises, and asks travellers in particular to avoid transiting UAE airports, citing airspace restrictions and flight cancellations. Advice like this can change quickly, so recheck it — and EK248's status with Emirates — close to departure.
Budget in Dollars, Spend in Dirhams
There's no fixed peso-to-dirham rate to quote. The Argentine peso trades within an exchange-rate band run by the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA) and quoted in pesos per US dollar; since 1 January 2026, the band's floor and ceiling have moved each month in line with the latest official inflation figures, whereas the UAE dirham is pegged to the US dollar at AED 3.6725.
That makes the dollar a practical bridge: check the peso–dollar rate close to travel, then apply the fixed dollar–dirham step — USD 100 is roughly AED 367. The peg also puts a dollar figure on a customs rule Argentina's embassy flags: cash or equivalents above AED 60,000, about USD 16,300, must be declared on arrival, which the UAE handles through its Afseh app.
Argentina's Winter Break Lands in Dubai's Hottest Month
For Argentine families the hemispheres work against the obvious window: the two-week winter school break falls in July, staggered by province, and July is typically Dubai's hottest month — 40°C days are common and daytime life moves indoors.
The southern summer is the better match: Dubai's mild season generally runs from November to March, and Argentina's 2026 school year ends on 18 December in most provinces and on 22 December in Buenos Aires province, so summer-holiday trips land in the UAE's most comfortable — and busiest — season.
