Armenian Nationals Get 90 Days in the UAE Without Applying for a Visa
Do Armenian Citizens Actually Need a Dubai Visa?
No. Since a bilateral waiver took effect on 1 February 2024, Armenian passport holders can enter, exit, and transit the UAE without applying for any visa or paying an entry fee. The exemption allows stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period, on an ordinary Armenian passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival. There is no application to file and no online form to complete before you fly — the passport itself, stamped at the border, is the only document doing the work.
That is a meaningfully different arrangement from what many nationalities get on this route: Armenia is not on a visa-on-arrival list or an e-visa system for the UAE — the pre-entry visa requirement was removed entirely, mirroring how UAE nationals already travel to Armenia visa-free. It is worth knowing that the UAE dropped its overstay grace period sitewide on 11 February 2026; anyone who stays past their permitted 90 days is now fined AED 50 per day from day one, so keeping track of that 180-day window matters more than it used to.
Flying Direct from Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport
flydubai runs near-daily nonstop flights between Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport and Dubai International Airport, with a flight time of just over four hours covering roughly 1,940 kilometers. Air Arabia also operates a nonstop Yerevan-to-Sharjah route on a similar schedule, worth checking if you are staying closer to the northern emirates. For most Armenian travelers weighing Dubai visa requirements against flight options, the nonstop route from Yerevan removes any need to connect through a third country — which is not something every nationality on this site gets to say.
Dram to Dirham: What to Expect at the Exchange Counter
The Armenian dram floats freely — it is not pegged to the US dollar or the UAE dirham the way some regional currencies are, so its exchange rate moves with the market rather than sitting at a fixed number. The dirham itself is pegged to the US dollar at a fixed rate, which means the dram-to-dirham rate shifts as the dram does, not the other way around. Check a live conversion rate close to your travel date rather than relying on a figure you saw months earlier, and budget with some room for movement. Cards are widely accepted across Dubai, so there is little need to carry large amounts of dram-converted cash.
Where to Turn If You Need Help While You're in Dubai
Armenia keeps a Consulate General inside Dubai itself, in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, open Monday to Friday with prior registration required for consular appointments. That is a genuine convenience — Armenian travelers do not have to head to Abu Dhabi for routine passport, notarial, or citizenship matters while they are in Dubai. The Embassy of Armenia, which handles broader diplomatic affairs and has represented the country in the UAE since 2000, is based in Abu Dhabi's Embassies District on Al Karamah Street, for anything that falls outside the Dubai consulate's remit.
Plan Around Yerevan's Winters, Not Dubai's
Yerevan has a genuinely cold, continental climate — winters routinely dip below freezing, quite unlike anywhere in the Gulf. That is part of why so many Armenian travelers book Dubai trips between November and March: it is an escape from the cold at home, and it also happens to be Dubai's most comfortable stretch of weather for being outdoors. Summer works in reverse — Yerevan gets hot and dry too, so a July or August Dubai trip is less about chasing better weather and more about a specific event, sale, or family visit than about seeking a change in climate.
