Do Indian Passport Holders Need a Dubai Visa?

Most do. An Indian passport does not give general visa-free entry to the UAE. If you do not qualify under a special entry route, you should arrange the correct visa before your flight.

Not every Indian entry route is a “visa on arrival”. In 2026, ICP publishes dedicated services called entry visas for nationals of certain countries residing abroad. For Indian nationals, these services are available in 14-day and 60-day forms when the traveller holds the required foreign visa or residence document.

That distinction matters. A normal 30-day or 60-day tourist visa is not the same product as the special ICP 14-day or 60-day route. The rules, fees, documents and extension rights differ.

Current ICP service cards say ordinary Indian passport holders and family members who qualify can use the special route when they hold a valid visa, residence permit or US Green Card issued by the United States, European Union or United Kingdom, or a valid residence permit issued by Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, Singapore or New Zealand.

ICP’s June 2026 expansion also confirms that India remains an eligible nationality under this system. The same update added Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya and South Africa.

These are the current ICP service-card fees, not the final price charged by every airport, airline or private provider. The actual payment route can include other service handling where applicable.

Standard Tourist Visa Government Fees

GDRFA Dubai currently publishes separate government fees for normal 30-day and 60-day tourist visas. These are not the same as the private service-package prices above.

GDRFA currently says there is no security-deposit amount on these standard single-entry or multiple-entry tourist visa types. If the applicant is already inside the UAE, extra charges can apply.

Dubai Visitor Visa From India: Document Rules

For the current standard Dubai tourist visa, the core GDRFA requirement is a passport copy and personal photo. The service terms also require a travel ticket to continue or leave the UAE, and valid medical insurance in the UAE.

Two blank pages, hotel bookings, bank statements and host documents are not universal requirements for every Indian tourist application. They can be requested on a particular route or by a provider, but the standard GDRFA tourist service card does not list them for everyone.

For Indian applicants, the GDRFA service card does not list the country-of-origin identity-card requirement that it applies to Iraq, Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan.

Your provider may ask for extra details to prepare or check the application. That does not make every extra item a UAE government rule.

The UAE has two official transit visa durations: 48 hours and 96 hours. They are single-entry and non-extendable.

A transit visa is relevant when you need to enter the UAE during a stopover and you are not using another valid entry route. UAE Government guidance says transit visas are sponsored by UAE-based airlines and must be arranged before entry.

If your journey is only a layover and you plan to stay airside, confirm the airline and airport process before buying another visa. If you plan to leave the airport, collect baggage through immigration or make a self-transfer, check whether UAE entry clearance will be required.

Multiple-Entry Options for India–UAE Travel

Choose a multiple-entry visa only if you genuinely plan to leave the UAE and return during the visa’s allowed period. It can suit travellers combining Dubai with Oman, Bahrain or another destination.

Current GDRFA tourist services include 30-day and 60-day multiple-entry options. We currently list the 30-day multiple-entry visa at USD 375 and the 60-day multiple-entry visa at USD 800.

A multiple-entry visa does not automatically mean 60 days per entry. Always treat the issued permit as the final record for stay and validity dates.

Five-Year Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa for Indians

Indian nationals can also consider the UAE’s five-year multiple-entry tourist visa. This is a different route from the normal 30-day or 60-day products and does not require a UAE guarantor or host.

Current GDRFA terms require a passport valid for at least six months, a six-month bank statement, valid UAE health insurance and a round-trip or onward ticket. The applicant must show a bank balance of at least USD 4,000, or its equivalent, during the six months before applying.

The current GDRFA fee breakdown displays a total of about AED 3,713.50, including an AED 3,000 guarantee. The amount can vary depending on the case.

The visa allows up to 90 continuous days per visit and may be extended for a similar period, but total stay must not exceed 180 days in a year. It is a tourist visa, not a work permit.

Which Dubai Visa Should an Indian Traveller Choose?

Start with your real travel plan, not the cheapest visa. A visa only works well when its stay length and entry type match the trip.

For a short holiday, a 30-day single-entry tourist visa is usually the simple choice. It gives enough time for a normal Dubai trip without paying for a longer stay that you do not need.

If you plan to stay more than 30 days, look at the 60-day single-entry option. It can suit a long family visit or a slower UAE trip.

If you will leave the UAE and return during the same trip, check a multiple-entry option. A single-entry visa ends once you leave. Do not buy a single-entry visa when your plan clearly needs a return entry.

If Dubai is only a stop between two flights, first check whether you will pass immigration. If you stay airside, a separate UAE entry visa may not be needed. If you must enter the UAE, a 48-hour or 96-hour transit visa may fit.

If you hold a qualifying US, EU or UK visa or residence permit, or a valid residence permit from one of the other countries listed by ICP, check the special 14-day and 60-day route before buying a normal tourist visa.

Many travellers confuse the date by which they must enter with the number of days they may stay. These are two different rules.

A visa can have an entry window before travel. Your allowed stay then starts when you enter the UAE, subject to the terms on the issued visa.

The special ICP 14-day and 60-day services, for example, show a 30-day pre-entry validity period. The stay is then 14 or 60 days from entry.

Your normal tourist visa can also show a separate entry-validity window and allowed stay. Read both fields on the final eVisa before you book a return flight around the last possible day.

If a website, agent or older article gives a different date from the issued visa, use the issued visa as the main record and ask the application channel to explain any conflict.

Can You Use a Dubai Visitor Visa for Work?

No. A tourist, visit or transit visa is not a work permit. Do not choose a visitor visa because a job starts soon and assume the employer can fix the status later.

Business travel is also different from employment. A short business visit can cover meetings or similar short activity, but it does not give normal work rights.

ICP applies an overstay fine of AED 50 per day to visa violations. The special 14-day and 60-day India routes both list AED 50 per day after the allowed stay expires.

Since the unified fine structure introduced in February 2026, tourist and visit visas carry no grace period. The fine starts from the first day after your permitted stay ends. Grace periods still exist in some residence categories, most commonly after a residence permit is cancelled, but they do not apply to a normal visitor stay.

The safe rule is simple: use the expiry and permitted-stay dates on your own visa, and leave or regularise your status before the allowed period ends. Do not assume an extra buffer that your visa does not state.
