Czech Republic to Dubai: 90 Days Visa-Free from Prague
The Czech Republic has kept a resident embassy in the UAE since 1989, longer than most of its EU neighbours, and Prague now sends direct flights to Dubai several times a day. Dubai visa requirements for Czech Republic passport holders are simple by comparison — most travellers file no paperwork before flying. What's genuinely different for Czechs specifically is what surrounds that: a currency that isn't the euro, a home climate that makes winter the obvious season for a Gulf trip, and consular support with its own opening hours. Here's what's worth knowing beyond the visa types and documents already listed above.
Czech Republic's 90-Day Visa Waiver, in Plain Terms
Visa-free travel from Czech Republic to Dubai currently allows stays of up to 90 days, counted against a rolling 180-day window rather than resetting with each trip — travel as often as you like, but combined days in the UAE can't pass 90 within any 180-day stretch. There's no fee and nothing to apply for ahead of a standard tourist visit; the visa categories listed further up this page are for travellers who don't qualify for the waiver or need a different kind of stay.
This entry doesn't cover paid work, and it has nothing to do with the Schengen Area — it's a separate UAE–Czech arrangement tied to the passport itself. A companion holding a different, visa-required passport needs to apply separately, through How to Apply for Dubai Visa.
Getting Consular Help in the UAE
The Czech Republic has kept an embassy in Abu Dhabi since 1989, now based in Marina Village, handling passport renewals and document legalisation for Czech citizens. Its public phone line only runs weekday mornings, and in-person visits need an email-booked appointment rather than a walk-in.
For genuine emergencies outside those hours — a lost passport, an accident, anything urgent — the Ministry of Foreign Affairs runs a separate 24-hour emergency line for Czech citizens abroad. Routine Schengen visa applications from other nationalities go through VFS Global centres in Abu Dhabi or Dubai instead of the embassy directly.
The Flight Path from Prague to Dubai
Flights from Czech Republic to Dubai run through Václav Havel Airport in Prague, with Emirates, flydubai and Smartwings all operating direct services in six to seven hours. The route has run since Emirates launched it in 2010, and it's grown considerably since.
Worth knowing:
- Emirates, flydubai and Smartwings together operate the Prague–Dubai route several times a day combined.
- Smartwings now also flies some services under the historic Czech Airlines (ČSA) brand, after ČSA folded its own operations into Smartwings in late 2024 — the name lives on, but Smartwings runs the aircraft.
- Flight time runs six to seven hours, longer than most direct routes into Dubai from Western Europe.
- There's no direct service outside Prague — travellers from Brno or elsewhere connect through the capital first.
Why Winter Is Peak Season for Czech Travellers
Czech Republic passport holders in Dubai are often escaping a genuinely cold winter, unlike travellers from milder parts of Europe. Prague regularly sits below freezing from December through February, with short, grey days — a sharp contrast to Dubai's dry, sunny winter in the low-to-mid 20s°C, which is why that stretch draws the heaviest Czech travel to the UAE.
Summer runs the other way: Czech summers are mild by comparison, so travellers used to a temperate continental climate often find peak Gulf heat more intense than expected — worth factoring in if outdoor time matters more than air-conditioned spaces.
Budgeting in Koruna for a Dirham Trip
The Czech Republic is one of the few EU countries that kept its own currency rather than adopting the euro, so a Dubai trip means converting koruna (CZK) directly, with no euro step in between. The koruna floats freely against the dollar, while the UAE dirham is fixed to it, so the CZK–AED rate moves with wider currency markets rather than staying predictable.
Check the live rate close to departure rather than relying on a previous trip's numbers, and pay directly in dirhams where you can — accepting a merchant's on-the-spot conversion back into koruna usually applies a weaker rate than your own bank.
