Romanians Flying to Dubai: Exemption, Documents and Longer Stays

Romanian citizens can fly to Dubai on their passport alone, with no visa application, fee or sponsor. Romania's EU membership gives its nationals up to 90 days in Dubai within any rolling 180 days, and the only document condition is a passport that stays valid for at least half a year after the date you land. A visa becomes relevant in two cases: a stay that will run past 90 days, for which the 60-day single-entry visit visa is a common choice, and travel companions whose own passports are not covered.

Here the Dubai visa for Romanian citizens is examined from every angle that matters in practice: documents checked at Otopeni, the day count, Romanians living abroad, and the very different position of non-EU workers living in Romania.

Do Romanians Need a Visa for Dubai? The Dubai Visa Exemption Explained

No. The EU's short-stay deal with the UAE extends to every member state, Romania among them. Airline staff accept the Romanian passport at the desk, and the entry is logged when you pass Dubai immigration. The UAE government's breakdown of visa-exempt nationalities shows the countries in this category.

Sightseeing, time with relatives, conferences and negotiations are permitted, while a job in Dubai is not. A Dubai visa from Romania is therefore something to arrange only for longer stays or for fellow travellers whose own passports do not qualify.

Dubai Visa for Romanian Citizens: Counting 90 Days Within 180

The limit moves with you. On each arrival day, add up the time you were in the UAE during the previous six months and subtract it from 90; the result is what you may use.

Take a Romanian who spends 40 days in Dubai from early January. If she returns in late March, those 40 days still sit inside the window, so 50 days remain. If she waits until late July, the January stay has dropped out of the 180-day look-back and the full 90 days are available again. Hopping across a border and back does not refresh the allowance, because the earlier days keep counting until they fall outside the window.

Passport or Buletin? Romanian Documents for Dubai Visa-Free Entry

Neither the classic buletin nor the newer electronic identity card can be used to fly to Dubai; both are travel documents for Europe alone. Bring a Romanian passport, ideally the standard electronic one, that will not expire for at least six months after arrival. If you hold only a temporary passport, check with us before booking, as acceptance of temporary documents can differ from that of standard passports.

Alongside the passport, keep these items ready for the airline or the officer:

  • proof of your flight home or onward;
  • the name of your hotel, or the address of whoever is putting you up;
  • a travel medical policy, because Romanian and EU state health cover does not pay for care in the UAE;
  • English-language prescriptions for medicines you take regularly.

Diacritics and Married Names: Romanian Passports and Dubai Visa Bookings

Letters such as ș, ț, ă, â and î are dropped or simplified in the machine-readable lines of a Romanian passport, and airline systems use that simplified form. Book flights with the name exactly as those lines show it, including any double surname after marriage, so the ticket and the passport match when they are scanned together at check-in.

Romanians With Moldovan Passports Too: Choosing for the Dubai Visa Exemption

Many Romanian citizens also hold Moldovan citizenship. Neither passport needs a pre-arranged visa for a short trip: the Romanian document is covered by the EU agreement, the Moldovan one by the UAE's 90-day arrival list. Pick one passport, then present that same document at the check-in desk, at Dubai immigration and on the way out. Alternating between them does not create extra days and can leave confusing entry and exit records.

The Romanian Diaspora in Italy, Spain, Germany and the UK: Dubai Visa Position

Millions of Romanians live elsewhere in Europe, so trips to Dubai often begin in Rome, Madrid, Frankfurt or London rather than Bucharest. The country of residence is irrelevant; only the Romanian passport counts, with the same 90-day limit. Romanians in the United States follow the same principle, and those who also hold a US or British passport can travel on that instead, as both are on the UAE's visa-on-arrival list.

Non-EU Workers Living in Romania: Dubai Visa Routes by Nationality

Romania now employs large numbers of workers from Asia and from neighbouring countries. Their Romanian residence permit does not make them visa-free; the passport still decides:

  • Moldovan passport holders are on the 90-day arrival list.
  • Ukrainian passport holders are given 30 days on landing.
  • Indian, Vietnamese, Filipino and Indonesian nationals with a Romanian residence permit can use a separate airport route open to certain nationalities living in EU states. For the last three groups, it offers either a 14-day visa costing AED 100, which may be lengthened one time, or a 60-day stay for AED 250 that cannot be extended, with conditions on how long passport and permit must remain valid.
  • Nepalese and Sri Lankan nationals, among others, must have a Dubai tourist visa issued before they travel.

Foreign Medical Students in Romania and the Dubai Visa

Romanian universities attract many international medical and dental students, and their Dubai rules follow their own passports. Israeli students are on the 90-day arrival list. Moroccan and Tunisian students must secure approval in advance. Indian students holding a Romanian residence permit may be able to use the airport route for Indian nationals with EU residence, provided the permit and passport meet the validity conditions. Students should also make sure their Romanian permit will still be valid when they return for the next semester.

Nepalese and Sri Lankan Workers in Romania: A Complete Dubai Visa File

Workers from Nepal and Sri Lanka who want to visit relatives in Dubai should apply well before any holiday period, using the name spelling from their passport and a clear photo. A letter from the Romanian employer confirming leave dates is not required, but it helps if questions arise, and a valid Romanian residence permit is essential for the journey back. Booking flights only after approval protects against losing money on a ticket.

Employers and Families in Romania: Arranging a Dubai Visa for Others

  1. Decide how many days are needed and whether the traveller will leave and come back.
  2. Enter the traveller's details exactly as they appear in his or her own passport.
  3. Upload the passport page and a photo meeting the Dubai visa photo specifications.
  4. Check whether any of the documents in the visitor visa document list apply.
  5. Pay, wait for approval, then book the flights.

Our overview of the visitor visa application walks through each step, and the visa status checker shows progress once the file is submitted.

When a Romanian Stay Runs Past 90 Days: Dubai Visa Choices

After using all 90 days, Romanians may ask for a visit visa arranged beforehand, an option that other European Union passport holders share. Besides the 60-day single-entry option, the choices are:

Each card further down gives the price and current processing time. Romanians who are inside the country when the 90 days run low can ask us about the in-country extension for 30 days or the in-country extension for 60 days.

Romanians Working in Dubai: Dubai Visa Rules for Visiting Families

A sizeable Romanian community works in Dubai, in aviation, hospitality, healthcare and construction. Parents and siblings with Romanian passports just book a flight and use the 90-day allowance. In-laws or partners on non-exempt passports need a visa first; when it is arranged through our service, the Romanian host only provides an address and phone number. Taking up employment in Dubai yourself requires a residence visa obtained through the hiring company, never a visit entry.

Romanian Grandparents on Long Dubai Visa-Free Stays With Grandchildren

A common pattern is a Romanian grandparent flying out to help a working son or daughter with young children for several months. The first 90 days need no visa. For anything longer, request a visit visa in advance so it takes over as the free days end, or plan two separate stays with enough time back in Romania between them for the earlier days to leave the 180-day window. Leaving for a weekend and returning does not reset the count. Dual Moldovan citizens should keep to one passport for every trip.

Group Trips From Romania With Mixed Passports: Who Needs a Dubai Visa

Travel agencies, parishes and companies in Romania often organise group trips that include people of several nationalities. Name one coordinator, collect each member's passport details early, and check which members need a visa, ideally a couple of months before departure. Romanian, Moldovan and other EU passport holders can travel as they are, while visas for the others should be approved before the group's tickets are issued.

Romanian Entrepreneurs and IT Firms: Dubai Visa-Free Business Trips

Romanian founders, software companies and exporters travel to Dubai for client meetings, exhibitions and investor talks, all permitted without a visa. Staff on non-exempt passports joining them should request the business visa for Dubai valid 14 days, quoting the host company's details.

From Otopeni: Two Dubai Airports and the Romanian Dubai Visa Exemption

flydubai operates several nonstop flights a day from Bucharest Otopeni to Dubai International, taking around five to six hours, and low-cost carriers also fly from Bucharest to Dubai's second airport, Al Maktoum International. Exactly the same entry rules apply whichever airport you land at. Clocks in Dubai are two hours ahead of Bucharest during the winter months and one hour ahead after Romania moves to summer time. The date stamped or recorded on arrival is day one of your allowance.

Romanian Minors on a Dubai Visa-Free Trip: Exit Rules at Home

Each child needs a Romanian passport of their own. Romania applies its own exit rules for minors: a child leaving Romania with only one parent, or with another adult, normally needs a notarised declaration from the absent parent or parents. That document is checked at the Romanian border, not in Dubai, but carrying an English translation is useful at Dubai immigration too.

Romanian Passport Holders Changing Planes: Dubai Transit Visa Rules

Romanians flying on through Dubai, to Thailand, India or beyond, require no transit visa, and may step out of the airport during a layover under the normal visa-free entry. Fellow passengers who lack a visa-exempt passport can arrange the transit visa covering 48 hours in Dubai or the transit visa covering 96 hours in Dubai before travel.

Five Dubai Visa Slip-Ups Romanian Travellers Make

  • Arriving at Otopeni with only the identity card.
  • Assuming the 90 days restart after a short trip abroad.
  • Paying a third-party website for a visa the Romanian passport does not need.
  • Expecting a Romanian residence permit to exempt a Nepalese or Moroccan spouse.
  • Forgetting the notarised declaration for a child travelling with one parent.

Too Many Days: What a Romanian Pays Beyond the Dubai Visa Exemption

Each day beyond the permitted 90 attracts a fine of AED 50, which has to be settled before you can board your flight out, and immigration allows no grace days. If your plans change, contact us before the allowance ends, while practical options still remain.
