Dubai Visa for Spanish Citizens
A Dubai visa for Spanish citizens is usually unnecessary to purchase for an ordinary holiday. With an eligible ordinary Spanish passport, visiting the UAE normally requires no advance tourist-visa application for trips totalling up to 90 days within 180 days. Before booking from Madrid, Barcelona or elsewhere in Spain, check the remaining days from any earlier UAE trips. Our Dubai entry policy guide explains how travel purpose and passport nationality affect your options.
The Passport That Makes Entry Simpler
Spain has a visa-waiver arrangement with the UAE. If you hold an ordinary Spanish passport and are visiting Dubai for tourism, a short family stay or permitted meetings, you generally proceed to entry checks on arrival instead of submitting a paid tourist-visa application beforehand. The same arrangement applies when your UAE arrival is in Abu Dhabi rather than Dubai, because the permission concerns the country, not one emirate.
This entitlement depends on the travel document you present. Having a Spanish home address, national identity number or residence card does not by itself make somebody a Spanish citizen. If your passport was issued by another country, assess that nationality separately through the visa eligibility and application guide. Airport staff and border officers will examine the passport actually used for travel.
One Allowance Across Several UAE Visits
The key planning number is 90 days within 180 days. You can use the allowance in one longer stay or across several shorter journeys, but returning after a weekend away does not provide a brand-new 90 days. For example, a 24-day visit followed by another 19-day visit uses 43 days of your allowance for the relevant period. Keep your departure and arrival dates together when planning a third trip.
Count the entire time spent inside the UAE, including nights in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or Ras Al Khaimah. Moving between emirates is domestic travel; leaving for Oman or another country is an international departure. That distinction matters when you calculate days, particularly around a family visit combined with a regional itinerary. Check your individual immigration record if past entries or exits are unclear, rather than estimating from airline bookings.
Why Your Spanish DNI Is Not Enough
Your Documento Nacional de Identidad, usually called the DNI, is useful for identifying yourself in Spain. It does not replace the international passport required for entry to the UAE. Before travelling, inspect your passport for damage and verify at least six months of remaining validity, as stated in the official travel guidance for Spanish nationals.
Match your airline reservation to the name and travel-document details on your passport. If you renewed it after buying your ticket, update the airline's passenger record where required. A photograph of a passport or an old passport number is not a substitute for the valid original presented at check-in and immigration. If you are travelling with children, check that every child has an acceptable individual travel document.
From Madrid, Barcelona or the Islands
Travelling from Madrid-Barajas or Barcelona-El Prat may involve a different connection pattern from departing Seville, Bilbao, Palma or the Canary Islands. A departure from Tenerife or Gran Canaria can add a domestic leg before an international connection. When comparing itineraries, check not just the total flying time but also which airport you enter, whether baggage is checked through, and whether the transfer requires passing immigration in an intermediate country.
Flights, stopover conditions and operating schedules can change. Keep enough connection time for a terminal transfer and review the airline's latest document rules before departure. A ticket originating in Spain does not alter the UAE visa rule attached to the passport holder. A traveller starting in Málaga with a different nationality should still check that passport's entry requirements independently.
Family Members With Different Passports
A Spanish citizen may travel with a partner who holds a Colombian, Moroccan, British or another passport, or with relatives who live legally in Spain but have not acquired Spanish nationality. Do not assume everyone in the same booking receives identical permission on landing. Each person's visa eligibility depends on their own citizenship, document type, current UAE rules and, sometimes, qualifying additional documents.
Make a simple family document check before paying for flights: write down each passport nationality, expiry date and proposed UAE stay. Anyone who needs pre-arranged permission can review our tourist visa requirements guide before selecting the appropriate service. This helps a group plan around the person who needs the most preparation, rather than booking first and discovering different entry conditions at the airport.
Dubai Airport: Stopover or Short Visit?
If you are connecting through Dubai on the way to Asia, Africa or another destination, consider whether you plan to remain in the international transit area or leave the airport to see the city. An eligible Spanish passport can normally be used for a short UAE entry within its remaining 90-day allowance, so buying a separate tourist visa for a few hours is generally unnecessary.
The website lists 48-hour transit services and 96-hour transit services, but these should not be treated as compulsory purchases for a Spanish national who already qualifies to enter. A companion holding a visa-required passport may need a different arrangement. Also verify baggage collection, terminal access and onward boarding deadlines before deciding to leave the airport.
Which Dubai Costs Actually Apply?
For an eligible short visit on an ordinary Spanish passport, the UAE entry entitlement does not have a standard advance tourist-visa purchase price. Your actual holiday budget is instead shaped by flights, accommodation, transport, insurance, activities and spending in the UAE. Keeping those expenses distinct from visa-service charges prevents unnecessary applications and makes the trip easier to plan.
Visitors with a different passport, or a separately assessed immigration requirement, may need to compare commercial packages. Our visa cost explainer provides background, while the 30-day single-entry service and 60-day single-entry service describe products for travellers who actually require them. A longer stay is not automatically solved by purchasing one of these products after using your Spanish visa-free entitlement.
Read Spain's Travel Advice Before Booking
The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes country-specific travel recommendations for the UAE. As of 26 September 2026, Spain advises postponing nonessential UAE travel. These can contain time-sensitive information about flight disruption, regional developments, travel insurance and consular contact details. Review the current advisory close to the date of booking and again before departure, particularly if your itinerary includes a connection or onward travel across the region.
Travel medical cover deserves attention even for visitors who do not need an advance visa. The European Health Insurance Card is designed for qualifying care in participating European systems; it should not be assumed to cover medical expenses in Dubai. Keep your insurer's contact details, accommodation address, return itinerary and a way to access emergency funds during your stay. For the entry category itself, consult the official UAE visa-exemption information.
Meetings, Holidays and Work Are Different
Short sightseeing trips and visiting friends fit the usual visitor purpose. Some business activity, such as attending meetings or a conference, may also be compatible with short entry, provided the activity is permitted under the applicable immigration rules. Taking a paid job, moving to the UAE, working for a local employer or beginning long-term residence is a different matter and requires an appropriate legal status.
If your plans involve relocation, ask the employer or relevant sponsor about the correct residence and work-permit process before travelling. A tourist entry stamp is not a shortcut to employment authorization. For a genuine separate application, Dubai Visitor Visa can help review the case, but the final permission is decided by UAE authorities. You can contact our team with your passport nationality and proposed purpose to identify the right next enquiry.
If a passport is lost during your stay, ask the Spanish consular authorities about appropriate emergency documentation. Check replacement passport details with your airline and UAE immigration before travelling again, because your original entry record may need updating.
When Your Return Date Changes
Long visits are easier to manage if you keep the 90-in-180 calculation visible throughout the journey. If you are thinking about staying longer, verify your present entry record and available immigration routes well before the expected departure date. An extension is not automatic for every entry type, and the correct procedure depends on your individual permission and the current rules.
Our 30-day extension information and 60-day extension information describe services that may be relevant to particular visas, not guaranteed upgrades to a Spanish visa waiver. If you already hold a separate application issued through our service, use application status tracking for that file. Otherwise, plan the trip around your available visa-free days and seek case-specific advice early.
For a straightforward Spain-to-Dubai visit, begin with your valid passport and a realistic calendar. Check every traveller's nationality, review the latest travel advisory and keep a little flexibility in the flight plan. If somebody in your party needs a separate permit, our visitor visa FAQs and support team can help you prepare the next appropriate step.
