What Bahamian Passport Holders Need to Know Before Flying to Dubai

Do Bahamian Citizens Need a Visa for Dubai?

No advance visa is required. Bahamian passport holders are on the UAE's visa-on-arrival list, which means immigration officers at Dubai International Airport stamp a free entry visa directly into your passport when you land. This is the standard dubai visa for bahamas citizens, and it does not need to be arranged, paid for, or approved before you fly.

The stamp you receive functions as a multiple-entry visit visa, valid for six months from the date of issue, and it allows a stay of up to 90 days per entry. Your Bahamian passport must have at least six months of validity remaining from your arrival date, and you should be able to show a return or onward ticket if asked at immigration. This benefit reflects the formal ties between the two countries, which include a visa arrangement agreed alongside the establishment of diplomatic relations between The Bahamas and the UAE in 2011.

Applying for a Dubai Visa from The Bahamas

Most Bahamian travellers will simply use the visa-on-arrival option and won't need to apply for anything in advance. That said, some travellers prefer to have their entry confirmed before departure, particularly if they're booking non-refundable flights or travelling for business. If you'd rather sort your paperwork out ahead of time, you can review the Dubai visa application process and submit your details online rather than relying solely on the airport stamp.

Getting to Dubai from Nassau

There are currently no direct flights between Nassau and Dubai, so Bahamian travellers should expect to connect through a major hub, typically in the United States or Europe, before continuing on to Dubai International Airport (DXB). Total journey time will vary significantly depending on your layover, so it's worth building in extra time when booking, especially if your connection involves a change of airport or terminal.

Dubai is roughly 8 to 9 hours ahead of Nassau, depending on the time of year, since the UAE does not observe daylight saving but The Bahamas does. Factor this into your first day or two, as the jet lag from a long eastbound journey tends to hit harder than the return trip.

Before You Fly: A Quick Checklist

  • Confirm your Bahamian passport is valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date in Dubai.
  • Have a return or onward flight ticket ready to show if requested at immigration.
  • Book accommodation details in advance, as hotels may be asked for during entry checks.
  • Check your connecting flight's layover time carefully, since there is no direct Nassau–Dubai route.
  • Keep a digital and printed copy of your passport and travel documents while in transit.

Currency and Spending in Dubai

Dubai's official currency is the UAE dirham (AED). For Bahamian travellers, budgeting is fairly straightforward, since the Bahamian dollar is pegged one-to-one with the US dollar, and most Dubai hotels, restaurants, and shops accept major international cards. It's still worth carrying some cash in AED for taxis, smaller vendors, and traditional souks, where card payment isn't always available. Compare exchange rates at a licensed currency exchange in Dubai rather than at the airport, where rates are typically less favourable.

Best Time for Bahamian Travellers to Visit Dubai

Nassau's warm, humid climate means Bahamian travellers are used to heat, but Dubai's summer (roughly June to September) is a different kind of hot, with dry desert temperatures that regularly pass 40°C. If you're travelling during these months, plan outdoor activities for early morning or evening and lean on Dubai's indoor attractions during the day. For a more comfortable trip, the cooler months from November to March offer pleasant daytime temperatures and are the busiest tourist season, so book accommodation and activities early if you're travelling then.

UAE Diplomatic Support for Bahamian Citizens

There is no UAE embassy or consulate located in The Bahamas. The nearest UAE diplomatic missions are in Havana, Cuba, and Washington, D.C., in the United States. These missions handle broader diplomatic and government matters; they are separate from any visa booking service and are not the right channel for routine visa-on-arrival questions, since no advance visa application is needed.

On the other side, The Bahamas opened its own embassy in Abu Dhabi in February 2024, and in January 2026 it launched dedicated passport services there for Bahamians living in or passing through the UAE. This means Bahamian citizens already in the UAE who need passport or consular support have a resource on the ground, run by their own government.

Applying Urgently or Checking Your Application

If your travel dates are close and you'd rather not rely solely on the on-arrival process, an expedited option is available through Dubai's express visa application service. This doesn't guarantee approval or a fixed processing time, but it's designed for travellers working with a tighter timeline. Once you've submitted any application, you can check your progress at any point using the Dubai visa status check tool, so you're not left guessing before your flight.

Dubai Visitor Visa assists Bahamian travellers with the pre-arranged visa process for those who want it, but we're not a UAE government body, and the visa-on-arrival entitlement described above is available to Bahamian passport holders directly at the airport, independent of any service.
