Visiting Dubai on a Tanzanian Passport: Visa First

Tanzanians travelling on an ordinary passport must hold an approved UAE visa before flying to Dubai, because there is no arrival-visa option for Tanzanian nationals. Everything happens online, so applicants in Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Mwanza or Zanzibar never queue at an embassy; the decision arrives in your inbox as an e-visa. Our step-by-step Dubai tourist visa walkthrough shows the form itself, while what follows deals with what is specific to Tanzanian passport holders.

Why the 2026 Arrival-Visa Change Leaves Tanzanians Out

In June 2026 the UAE extended a residence-based arrival visa to six nationalities, including neighbouring Kenya, for travellers who live in the US, the UK, the EU or a handful of other countries. Tanzania was not on that list. A Tanzanian with a British residence permit or an American green card therefore still applies in advance, unlike a Kenyan in the same situation. The UAE foreign ministry's nationality-by-nationality visa table lists Tanzania as "visa required".

Choosing a UAE Visa for a Trip From Tanzania

PurposeTypical lengthVisa to pick
Holiday or family visitOne to four weeksOne-month single-entry tourist visa
Regional tour returning through DubaiFour weeks or lessRepeat-entry visa for 30 days
Extended stay with relativesFive to eight weeksSixty-day tourist visa, one entry
Long stay with trips out and backTwo months at most60-day repeat-entry option
Supplier visits, trade fairs or meetingsUp to 14 daysUAE business visa for two weeks

Moving between Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah does not count as leaving the UAE, so a single-entry visa is enough for a trip that stays inside the country. When a holiday sits close to a month, count the days from landing to departure; if the total runs past 30, the 60-day visa is the safer choice than risking an overstay.

What a Dubai Visa Costs When Paying From Tanzania

The visa cards list each option in US dollars, and whatever total you confirm at checkout is everything you pay. A shilling card is converted by your bank using its exchange rate, sometimes adding a foreign-transaction fee, and some local cards are blocked for foreign online purchases until the bank switches that on, so call ahead if you are unsure. Paying with a dollar card avoids conversion entirely.

Documents for a Tanzanian Visa Application

  • A legible colour scan of the passport page carrying your photo and details. The passport must not expire within six months of your arrival date.
  • A passport-style photograph with a white background.
  • Confirmation of your flight home or onward from Dubai.
  • Health cover that applies in the UAE throughout the stay; checkout tells you whether it is already part of the price.

Type each name as the passport prints it, second names included, and one of our consultants reviews the documents before submission. Extra papers, such as a bank statement, come into play only when a particular case calls for them.

Flights to Dubai From Tanzania's Three Main Airports

From Julius Nyerere International in Dar es Salaam, Emirates and Air Tanzania fly nonstop to Dubai in about five and a half hours, with around fourteen flights a week between them. Zanzibar has a nonstop flydubai service three times a week, taking a similar time. There is no nonstop flight from Kilimanjaro, so travellers from Arusha and Moshi connect through Nairobi, Dar es Salaam or another hub. A through ticket covering every leg means your bags are checked to Dubai and a late first flight becomes the airline's problem to solve. Dubai's clock sits an hour ahead of Tanzanian time in every season.

Tanzanians in Zanzibar Applying for a Dubai Visa

Zanzibaris travel on the same Tanzanian passport as mainland citizens, so the visa rules and the application are identical. The flydubai service from Abeid Amani Karume International makes a direct trip possible, though its three weekly flights mean booking dates first and then applying for the visa to match them. Choose Tanzania as nationality on the form. If the weekly flights do not suit your dates, connecting through Dar es Salaam is the usual sensible fallback.

UK and US Residents Holding Tanzanian Passports

A large Tanzanian community lives in Britain and America, and residence there makes no difference to the UAE rule for a Tanzanian passport. On the form, select Tanzania under nationality and your current country under residence, then upload the same documents an applicant in Dar es Salaam would. Flights from London to Dubai take about seven hours, which makes a Dubai stop practical on the way home to Tanzania.

That stopover is worth planning carefully. A Tanzanian passport holder who leaves Dubai airport between flights needs a transit visa, such as the 48-hour UAE transit visa, along with a confirmed onward ticket; staying airside requires nothing.

Tanzanian Passport Holders Working in the Gulf

A Tanzanian living in Saudi Arabia, Qatar or another GCC state on a residence permit could be eligible for the GCC-resident route into the UAE, which depends on profession and on how long the residence remains valid. If that route does not fit, the standard tourist visa is the alternative.

Business Trips From Tanzania to Dubai

Tanzanian traders often visit Dubai to buy stock, meet suppliers or attend exhibitions, many of them held at the Dubai World Trade Centre through the year. A single short visit fits the 14-day business visa, while someone flying in several times over a month may find a multiple-entry tourist visa more practical. Neither allows paid work in the UAE, which needs an employment permit arranged by the employer.

Keep invoices and supplier contacts with you, because officers sometimes ask business visitors what brings them to Dubai, and plan shipments separately, because a visit visa covers you, not the goods you buy.

Tanzanian Students and Job Offers in the UAE

Students accepted by a UAE university receive a student visa through that institution, and a Tanzanian offered a job is sponsored for an employment visa by the employer. Neither should travel on a tourist visa intending to switch later, as that route is not designed for study or work.

Timing a Tanzanian Application

Apply once your flights are settled, allowing a margin before departure. Each product shows its own processing estimate, while the express visa option for Dubai is there for urgent trips. Straight after payment an email confirms your application reference; enter it on the online visa status tool to follow the file until approval.

Arriving in Dubai on a Tanzanian Passport

Emirates flights from Dar es Salaam arrive at Terminal 3. When you reach passport control, show the officer your Tanzanian passport and the e-visa, printed or on your phone. Keep your accommodation details and the return booking within reach, because questions about the visit are routine. The stay allowed by your visa runs from the day you are admitted, and entry is ultimately the officer's decision.

Families Travelling Together From Tanzania

Families can file together: add everyone before payment and attach an individual passport scan and photo per person. A child cannot travel on a parent's passport and needs a separate one. When the approvals arrive, compare each visa with the matching passport, paying particular attention to children whose names are long or hyphenated.

Extending a Stay as a Tanzanian Visitor

If plans change once you are in the UAE, raise it well before your visa ends. Some tourist-visa holders can add time through a 30-day in-country visa extension, subject to the visa they arrived on.

Every additional day after your visa runs out is fined AED 50. Grace days were abolished on 11 February 2026, so the count starts straight away, and the balance must be paid before you fly out. Our explanation of UAE overstay charges covers how to check what is owed.

When a Tanzanian Visa Request Is Turned Down

Many refusals stem from problems that can be fixed: a dark or cropped scan, a name entered differently from the passport, or unfinished business from an earlier UAE stay, such as an unpaid fine. Read our guide to frequent UAE visa refusals before trying again. Our refund policy explains that no refund follows a refusal, whereas withdrawing before submission returns part of the fee, less USD 50.

Earlier UAE Visits and Tanzanian Applicants

Anyone who once held a UAE residence visa should check that their old residence was cancelled when they left and that no fines are outstanding. A forgotten case can block a new visa or cause trouble at immigration. Tell our team about any previous UAE residence when you apply, so it can be looked at before submission.
