The firm then uses the process set by its free zone. This can include work approval, an entry permit, medical checks, Emirates ID, and final residence steps.

Applying From Outside the UAE
A person outside the UAE may first get an entry permit or another form of approval. The person then enters the UAE and completes the local steps.
The exact order can differ by free zone. Check the route before you book a flight. Do not assume one free zone uses the same steps as another.
Changing Status Inside the UAE
A person already in Dubai may be able to change status without leaving. A new visa or permit must first be ready. The old status must also be handled in the right way.
GDRFA Dubai currently lists a status-change fee of AED 500. It also lists AED 10 for Knowledge Dirham and AED 10 for Innovation Dirham. An extra listed service fee also applies.

- Pick the free zone. Use that zone’s rules.
- Set up the company. This applies to the owner route.
- Open the company visa file.
- Check the visa quota.
- Prepare the papers.
- Apply for the work or entry approval.
- Change status if needed.
- Complete the medical test and Emirates ID steps.
- Finish the residence process.
Save each receipt and file number. Check your name and passport data at every step. Fix an error as soon as you see it.
How Long Is the Visa Valid?
There is no one term for every free-zone visa. The visa term can depend on the free zone and route. It can also change when a package changes.
Do not write that all free-zone visas last two years. Check the final residence record for the real end date.
Can You Sponsor Your Family?
Yes, an eligible UAE resident can sponsor family members. Current UAE rules use a salary level of at least AED 4,000, or AED 3,000 plus housing, for the main family route.

What Happens If You Leave the Job?
If your work and residence are tied to that job, the old case must be closed in the right way. A new firm cannot simply take over the old permit.
Your old residence may need to be cancelled or changed. Do not guess the grace period. Check the live visa record and the current rule for your case.
What If the Company Licence Expires?
A firm needs a valid business record to keep visa work moving. A licence problem can block new visas. It can also affect later renewals.
Do not claim that every visa ends on the same day as the licence. The real effect depends on the firm’s record and the free-zone rules.
Free Zone Visa vs Green Residency
A normal free-zone route is tied to a job or business link. Green Residency is a separate self-sponsored route. It can fit some skilled workers, freelancers, owners, and partners who meet its rules.
The two routes are not the same. One does not turn into the other by itself. Compare both before you change your status.
Free Zone Visa vs Golden Residency
Golden Residency is also a separate route. It has its own rules for people such as some investors and skilled talent.
A Dubai free zone visa does not become a Golden Residency just because the person owns a company. The person must meet the Golden Residency rules.
