Bolivian passport holders must obtain UAE approval before flying to Dubai. That surprises many people, because travellers from every country bordering Bolivia can visit the UAE without one, but the Bolivian passport is treated differently. The application is made online from Santa Cruz, La Paz, Cochabamba or anywhere else, and the visa itself is delivered to your inbox. A Bolivian identity card, accepted for trips within South America, is not valid for UAE entry, so a passport is essential. Why Bolivian Passports Need a Visa When Neighbouring Countries Do Not
All five of Bolivia's neighbours enjoy 90-day visa-free entry to the UAE, so a Peruvian or Argentine tourist simply lands and walks through immigration. Bolivia is not on that list, and the UAE foreign ministry's table of visa rules by nationality shows it as "visa required". Travelling with friends from Peru or Brazil therefore means different paperwork for the Bolivians in the group.

Paying in Bolivianos or Dollars for a UAE Visa
All visa prices appear in US dollars on the cards here, and the checkout screen shows exactly what will be charged. A boliviano card is converted by the issuing bank. Some Bolivian banks limit foreign or US-dollar card payments, so ask yours whether an international online purchase will go through before you begin; a card issued abroad can be a simpler option.
Documents a Bolivian Applicant Uploads
- A clear colour image of the passport's biographical page. Its expiry date must fall at least six months after your arrival.
- A photograph against a white background; the UAE photo specifications explain size and framing.
- Proof of your departure flight, back to Bolivia or elsewhere.
- Health insurance accepted in the UAE covering the full stay; checkout states if it is already included.
Spanish naming conventions matter here. Bolivian passports usually show two surnames, and the form must carry both exactly as printed, accents aside, or the visa may not match the passport. Routes From Santa Cruz and La Paz to Dubai
No airline flies between Bolivia and the UAE, so every itinerary includes a change of plane. From Viru Viru in Santa Cruz, the shortest options connect in Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo onto Emirates flights to Dubai, with roughly 18 hours of flying in total. Madrid is another connection point, and Miami a longer one. Travellers starting in La Paz usually route through Santa Cruz or another hub first. Dubai is eight hours ahead of Bolivia all year.
The Emirates nonstop from São Paulo follows a timetable that can change during the year, so confirm operating days first and apply for the visa to match the dates you book.
When Bolivians Should Plan a Trip to Dubai
The most comfortable weather in Dubai runs from roughly November through to March. The July school holidays in Bolivia fall in the hottest part of the Gulf summer, when daytime temperatures often pass 40°C, so outdoor plans need to be built around early mornings and evenings.
Connecting Flights and Transit Rules for Bolivian Travellers
The connecting country's rules apply as well as the UAE's. A connection in Miami requires a valid US visa, because international passengers in the US clear US immigration even when connecting. Changing planes in Madrid means checking current Schengen transit requirements for Bolivian passports. Brazilian connections are usually the simplest for Bolivians, but confirm with your airline when booking.
Dubai Visas for Bolivians Living in Spain
Spain is home to one of the largest Bolivian communities abroad, and Spanish residence has no effect on how the UAE treats a Bolivian passport. Residents of Madrid, Barcelona or Murcia apply with Bolivia as nationality and Spain as country of residence; a Spanish TIE residence card is not needed for the UAE application. Emirates flies Madrid to Dubai in about seven hours.
Many Bolivians in Spain also hold Spanish nationality. Spain's citizens are admitted for up to 90 days without applying, so travelling on that passport removes the need for an application. Book the flights under the Spanish passport and present that same passport at every border.
Bolivians in Argentina Applying for a UAE Visa
The same logic applies in Buenos Aires, Córdoba or Mendoza. Argentine residence, temporary or permanent, does not change UAE entry for a Bolivian passport, so apply in advance with Argentina as your country of residence. Bolivians who have become Argentine citizens can travel on the Argentine passport instead, which receives a visit visa on arrival.
Dubai Layovers for Bolivian Passport Holders
Dubai is a common connection for Bolivians heading to Asia. Remaining airside between flights needs no UAE visa. Arriving in Dubai After a Long Journey From Bolivia
After a day of connections, have everything ready for passport control: the Bolivian passport, a printed or digital copy of the e-visa, your return ticket and your hotel or host details. Officers routinely ask why you have come and how long you will remain, and the immigration officer makes the final decision. Your allowed stay is counted from the date of arrival.

Submit once your flights are fixed, leaving a margin before departure, especially if your route includes several connections. Work, Study and Business for Bolivian Citizens in the UAE
A visit visa is for holidays, seeing relatives and attending meetings; it never covers a paid job. A Bolivian hired by a UAE company receives an employment visa through that company's sponsorship, and students receive their visa through the university that admits them. Bolivian exporters attending exhibitions can use the business visa, keeping event registrations or invitations with them for immigration.
Bolivian Families and Groups Applying Together
One application can cover a whole family or tour group. Add every person before paying, attach a passport image and photo for each one, and make sure every child has an individual passport. When approvals arrive, check each visa against the right passport, including both surnames. Bolivian children leaving the country without both parents usually need a notarised travel permission as well, so arrange it before the departure date.
Extending a Stay as a Bolivian Visitor
If you need more time once in the UAE, raise it before your visa expires. An extension of up to 30 days inside the UAE may be possible, subject to the visa you entered with.

Earlier UAE Residence and Bolivian Applicants
Bolivians who once held UAE residence should confirm that their old residence visa was cancelled and that no fines remain. An open record from a past stay can lead to a refusal or a delay at the airport, so mention any earlier UAE residence when you apply and we can check it first.

Refusals often trace back to simple mistakes: a surname missing from the form, a blurred passport image, or an earlier UAE immigration problem left unsettled.
