Colombian Citizens Don't Need a UAE Visa — Here's What You Actually Need

No Visa Purchase Is Needed for a Standard Dubai Trip

Colombian passport holders don't need to buy anything before a standard trip to Dubai. Since a March 2019 mutual exemption agreement between the two governments, Colombian citizens enter the UAE visa-free for stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day window — the same free entry stamp that dozens of other nationalities get on arrival, no advance application, no fee. The visa products listed elsewhere on this page still have a place: a business visa applies if the trip is genuinely commercial rather than tourism, in which case the standard process on this site's own How to Apply for Dubai Visa page still applies, and a Dubai Visa Status Check still works the same way for tracking it. The extension products only become relevant if a stay is likely to run past the 90-day mark — and whether the standard in-country extension process applies to a free entry stamp the same way it applies to a purchased tourist visa is worth confirming directly with GDRFA before assuming it does.

A Nonstop Emirates Flight, Direct From Bogotá

Unlike most of the smaller or more distant nationalities covered on this site, Colombian travellers don't need to route through a connecting hub at all — Emirates flies nonstop between Bogotá's El Dorado International Airport and Dubai several times a week, at just under 18 hours in the air. That makes it one of the longest regularly scheduled nonstop routes in commercial aviation, and it means a Bogotá departure skips the layover planning that dominates the equivalent page for almost every other country. Avianca, Turkish Airlines, and Qatar Airways all serve the route too, typically with one connection through Europe or the Gulf, which can work out cheaper depending on the season even though it takes longer overall.

Where Does Consular Help Actually Sit — Bogotá or the UAE?

Both governments have had a resident diplomatic presence in the other's capital for well over a decade: Colombia opened its embassy in Abu Dhabi in August 2011, and the UAE opened its own embassy in Bogotá two years later, in October 2013. That's a meaningfully different setup from many of the nationalities covered on this site, where consular support often runs through a non-resident ambassador based in a third country entirely. For a Colombian citizen in the UAE, that means an actual, staffed embassy rather than a fly-in arrangement — useful for anything from a lost passport to a notarised document, separate from anything to do with the UAE visa system itself.

A Floating Peso, Not a Fixed Number

The Colombian peso doesn't have anything like the fixed currency pegs that show up elsewhere on this site — it floats freely against the US dollar and has moved substantially even within 2026 alone, at times swinging several percent in a single week on central bank intervention and oil-price moves. That volatility makes it worth checking the peso's rate close to departure rather than budgeting off a figure from even a month earlier, in either direction. Cards tied to a peso account convert to AED at whatever the live rate happens to be on the day of the transaction, and Dubai's exchange counters and ATMs handle COP conversions without any trouble.

Choosing Between Two Comfortable Travel Windows

Bogotá's high altitude and near-equatorial location keep its climate remarkably stable year-round, with only mild wet-versus-dry stretches — drier from December to March and again in July and August, wetter in between — rather than a hard seasonal split. That means the timing decision for a Dubai trip comes down almost entirely to Dubai's own calendar rather than Bogotá's: November through March is Dubai's cooler, more comfortable stretch, and also its busiest, so flights and hotels are worth booking earlier if travel dates land inside that window. If a business visa application needs to move quickly during that peak period, the Dubai Express Visa Application route is available too.
