An Indonesian passport does not open the UAE border on its own: a visa must be in place before you fly, with one exception added in 2026. Indonesians who hold a residence permit from one of nine listed countries can now receive a visa at the airport. Everyone else, including most travellers departing from Jakarta, Bali or Surabaya, completes an online application and receives the e-visa by email. Two Routes Into the UAE for Indonesian Passport Holders
Your route depends on where you live and which residence documents you hold, not on where your flight departs:

The UAE foreign ministry lists Indonesia as visa-required, so there is no general visa on arrival for Indonesians without qualifying residence.
The June 2026 Arrival Visa for Indonesians Abroad
On 25 June 2026 the UAE added Indonesia, along with five other countries, to its residence-based arrival scheme, as set out in the foreign ministry's announcement of the expanded arrival visa. It applies to ordinary Indonesian passports, and accompanying family members are covered too. The 14-day version carries a fee of AED 100 and is open to a single extension, whereas the 60-day version costs AED 250 with no extension possible. Family members travelling with an eligible Indonesian are included under the announcement, but each child still needs an Indonesian passport of their own, and every traveller is checked individually at the desk.
The announcement refers to residence permits. A US or Schengen tourist visa on its own is not described as qualifying, so Indonesians holding only a visit visa should arrange an e-visa rather than test the point at the airport.
Indonesians in Japan Using a Residence Card for UAE Entry
Japan hosts many Indonesian technical trainees, skilled workers and students. Japan issues residence cards to mid- to long-term residents, and that card is the Japanese residence permit the scheme refers to, so a holiday in Dubai from Tokyo or Osaka can use the arrival route. Carry the physical card and check its expiry date before booking.
UAE Arrival Route for Indonesians in Singapore
Singapore permanent residents hold residence there and fit the scheme. Many Indonesians in Singapore hold work passes instead, and the announcement does not say which pass types count. Confirm your own pass before relying on it, or apply for an e-visa so the trip does not depend on one officer's reading.

Every card quotes its price in US dollars. Paying with a rupiah debit or credit card means your bank applies its own exchange rate, and the checkout figure is the final charge.
Documents and Name Rules for Indonesian Applicants
- Your passport's photo page, scanned in colour; the passport should have at least six months to run from your arrival date.
- A recent portrait photo against plain white.
- Confirmation of the flight taking you home or onward.

Names deserve particular care. Indonesian passports do not split names into given name and surname, and many Indonesians have only one name. UAE immigration has refused visit visas on single-name passports since late 2022, so if yours shows one word, ask your kantor imigrasi about adding a name on the endorsement page before you apply. Flights to Dubai From Jakarta and Bali
Emirates flies nonstop from Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta Airport in roughly eight hours, with two daily departures, and from Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport in about nine hours. Travellers from Surabaya, Medan or Makassar connect through Jakarta, Bali, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.
Indonesia's Three Time Zones and Dubai
Neither country uses daylight saving, so the gap never changes: Dubai is three hours behind Jakarta (WIB), four behind Bali and Makassar (WITA) and five behind Jayapura (WIT). Leave Jakarta in the early evening and you reach Dubai before midnight, local time.
Dubai Transit Rules for Indonesian Travellers
Changing planes in Dubai without leaving the terminal requires no visa. For a night out of the airport on the way to Europe, Indonesians without qualifying residence need a transit visa plus a confirmed onward booking. A two-day transit visa for the UAE suits a short break, while a four-day transit visa gives more time.
Landing in Dubai on an Indonesian Passport
Emirates flights from Indonesia arrive at Terminal 3. Arrival-route travellers present their passport and original residence card at immigration, where the visa is issued. E-visa holders present the emailed approval, printed or saved to their phone. Keep your hotel or host's address and your departure booking ready, because officers often ask about plans; the final decision rests with them.
Timing and Tracking an Application From Indonesia

Visiting Indonesian Relatives Who Work in the UAE
Many Indonesians work in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in hospitality, healthcare and households. A parent or sibling visiting them needs their own tourist visa; the relative's residence does not create a visa, and no UAE sponsor is required. Save the host's address and contact number in case immigration asks.
Work in the UAE and Indonesian Passport Holders
Neither the arrival visa nor a tourist e-visa allows paid work. Indonesia regulates the overseas placement of its workers, so a UAE job should come through a licensed placement channel and an employer-sponsored UAE work permit. An offer that asks you to travel on a tourist visa and sort out papers later puts you at risk on both ends.
Extensions and Overstay Fines for Indonesian Visitors
