How to Check UAE Visa Cancellation Status With Passport Number

Passport number is often the starting point for a cancellation-status check, and in some enquiries it can be enough on its own — but many routes also ask for nationality, date of birth, passport expiry date, or a file/visa number alongside it. A few practical points:

• Always use the passport that the original residence visa was issued against — if you've renewed your passport since, try the old passport number first.
• Enter the passport number exactly as printed, including letters, with no extra spaces.
• On ICP Smart Services, the passport expiry date is a required field — leaving it out is the most common cause of a "no record found" result.
• Nationality and date of birth must match immigration records exactly, including any name-order differences on older passports.
• A passport-number result may confirm visa or file validity without listing every cancellation transaction in detail.
• No result does not automatically mean the visa is active or cancelled — it can also mean a details mismatch or the wrong enquiry route.

A Dubai-issued file should be checked through the Dubai-specific route rather than a non-Dubai channel.

UAE Residence Visa Cancellation Status

Residence cancellation closes or changes the immigration residence file itself — a different event from resignation, and a different record from work-permit cancellation. Look for clear cancellation confirmation or a cancellation date rather than assuming based on general wording. An expired file is not automatically the same as a formally cancelled one, and a historical record can remain visible in the system even after cancellation is complete. Residence Visa Cancellation Certificate UAE

A cancellation certificate is the formal document confirming that a residence visa cancellation has been completed, issued through whichever authority processed the request. What it contains can vary by route, but it's worth retaining because it's often the proof requested during a new visa application, an audit of your immigration history, or a dispute with a previous sponsor. Redact passport, UID, and Emirates ID numbers before sharing a copy of any certificate outside official channels — there's no single universal template across all cases.

Visa Cancellation Date Check & the Overstay Fine

The cancellation date should come from your completed record or certificate — not from your resignation date, last working day, termination date, or the date you left the UAE. This date is what starts your grace-period clock (see the table above for your applicable window).

Why Does My Visa Still Show Active?

Possible reasons — none confirmed without checking your specific file — include:

• Only the MOHRE work permit was cancelled, not the residence file
• Residence cancellation was never actually submitted to GDRFA/ICP
• Your sponsor hasn't completed the final step
• The request is genuinely still pending (usually within ICP's stated 2-day processing window)
• Additional documents are required before it can proceed
• Incorrect passport details were used in the search
• The wrong enquiry route was selected for the issuing emirate
• An old and new passport mismatch
• The transaction was returned or rejected
• A technical update delay on the portal

Cancellation Status While Outside the UAE

Some visa files can be cancelled while the holder is outside the UAE, but simply remaining outside the country is not itself proof of formal cancellation — sponsor action is often still required to close the file. GDRFA Dubai lists a higher fee for outside-country cancellation than for cancellation from inside the UAE (see the fees table above). Check the actual residence-file record using the passport linked to the old visa, and request cancellation confirmation through the relevant authority rather than assuming time abroad has resolved it automatically.

Before applying for a new UAE visa, confirm the old residence file shows as cancelled or properly closed, and check the MOHRE work-permit record separately for employment cases.
