Dubai Visa for Gambians: Apply Online Before You Fly
Gambians cannot check in for a Dubai flight without a UAE e-visa already granted, and none of it requires a trip to an embassy: residents of Banjul, Serrekunda or Brikama complete the request on a phone or laptop, and the decision is emailed back. If you are still weighing up a tourist, business or transit visa, our overview of UAE visa types sets out the choices. Beyond the visa itself, two practical questions trip up many Gambian travellers: which way to fly, and how to pay.
Visa Status of a Gambian Passport in the UAE
In the UAE foreign ministry's country-by-country visa exemption list, The Gambia is marked visa-required. Gambian passports get no arrival visa, and the residence-based arrival route opened in 2026 is limited to six other nationalities. One rule therefore covers every holder of this passport: approval first, boarding second.
Gambians Already Living in the US or the UK
Plenty of Gambian travellers to Dubai set off from abroad rather than from Yundum, and foreign residence leaves the UAE requirement unchanged.
Gambian Green Card Holders in the United States
Gambians settled in Atlanta, the New York area or elsewhere in America apply exactly as relatives at home do, giving The Gambia as their citizenship and America as home; a green card earns no arrival entry. Several US airports have nonstop Emirates services to Dubai. Anyone who has naturalised as an American can use that passport, and our UAE entry rules for US passport holders explain the visa-free side.
Gambians Living in Britain
London is home to a long-established Gambian community, and British residence, settled status included, does not alter the Gambian passport's position. Dual British-Gambian citizens may travel on the British passport under the rules in our Dubai guide for British passports, as long as the same passport is used for the booking and at check-in.
Picking the Right UAE Visa When Leaving The Gambia
| Reason for travelling | Visa that fits |
|---|---|
| Holiday or family visit lasting up to four weeks | 30-day tourist visa, one entry |
| Four weeks including a short trip to another country and back | UAE visa with repeat entries for 30 days |
| Longer stay with relatives working in Dubai | 60-day visit visa |
| Buying stock, meeting suppliers, trade fairs | business visa valid for two weeks |
| Overnight break while continuing to Asia | two-day UAE transit visa |
Most first-time visitors from The Gambia fit the first row. If relatives in Dubai are hosting you for a month or more, the 60-day option avoids an extension later.
Flights From Banjul to Dubai via Istanbul or Casablanca
No airline links Banjul International at Yundum directly with the UAE. Turkish Airlines flies Banjul to Istanbul twice a week in roughly seven hours, with onward services to Dubai, and Royal Air Maroc connects through Casablanca, from where Emirates and Royal Air Maroc reach Dubai in about eight hours. Some travellers cross into Senegal and use Dakar's larger airport, reached by road over the Senegambia Bridge, though total journey time should be compared first.
Changing planes without passing immigration at Istanbul or Casablanca normally requires no visa, but stepping outside the airport there is a different matter: the entry rules of Turkey or Morocco then apply, so keep the connection airside. With The Gambia on GMT year-round, Dubai's clocks run four hours ahead of Banjul's.
Koriteh, Tobaski and Busy Travel Dates From The Gambia
Flights out of Banjul fill up around Koriteh and Tobaski, when families travel, and during the dry-season months when European holiday charters arrive. With only a few departures a week on the Istanbul route, book early for those periods and apply for the UAE visa as soon as the dates are fixed.
Rainy Season in The Gambia and Dubai's Hottest Months
The Gambia's rains fall roughly from June to October, which overlaps with Dubai's most punishing heat, when daytime temperatures regularly pass 40°C. Many Gambian visitors therefore aim for November to March, when Dubai is mild enough for outdoor sightseeing, and plan family visits around school holidays at home.
Dalasi Payments and Card Issues for Gambian Applicants
The visa you choose is priced in US dollars on its card, and the final sum appears at checkout before any money moves. Many dalasi cards issued in The Gambia are not enabled for overseas online payments, so ask your bank before applying. If a payment is refused, message our team instead of trying several times, as repeated attempts can each be held by the bank.
Paperwork for a Gambian Visa Application
- A sharp colour copy of the passport's photo page; the passport needs six months or more remaining when you arrive.
- A recent photograph against white; the UAE visa photo guidelines explain size and framing.
- Your flight reservation leaving the UAE.
- Health cover valid in the UAE, which may already be included at checkout.
Type every name in the order the passport shows it, middle names too, and use identical spelling on the airline booking.
Gambian Families Applying Together
Parents can file for the whole household in one go: add each person before payment, attach every child's own passport copy and photograph, and check each approval against the matching passport when the visas arrive. Every child needs a Gambian passport of their own.
Staying With Gambian Relatives Who Live in Dubai
Many Gambians now work across the UAE in hotels, security firms, shops and transport companies, and parents or siblings often come to stay. The person hosting you cannot pass their residence on to guests, so every visitor applies for an individual tourist visa without needing a UAE sponsor. Have the host's home address and mobile number written down, because immigration sometimes asks for them.
Gambian Traders Buying Goods in Dubai
Dubai's wholesale markets supply electronics, phones, textiles and spare parts to traders across West Africa. For a buying trip, the business visa normally fits better than a tourist visa, while someone returning several times a year may prefer separate visits timed around orders. Airline luggage limits decide how much stock can fly with you, so read our note on Dubai baggage allowances and arrange cargo separately for larger consignments. Carry your invoices and the names of suppliers you plan to meet, since officers may ask business visitors about their plans, and remember that customs at Banjul applies its own duties to imported goods.
Gambian Workers Living in the Gulf
Gambians with residence in Saudi Arabia, Qatar or Kuwait may be eligible for the UAE e-visa open to Gulf residents, depending on the profession shown on their permit. Where that route does not apply, a standard tourist visa works instead.
Overstay Rules Gambian Visitors Should Know
Each visa allows a fixed number of days, and remaining beyond them costs AED 50 per day with no grace period, a rule applied since 11 February 2026. Fines are paid at departure. If you need more time, ask about an extension of 30 days inside the UAE before the visa runs out, and see our article on UAE overstay charges for how to check a balance.
Landing in Dubai With a Gambian Passport
Turkish Airlines flights use Terminal 1, while Emirates arrives at Terminal 3. Give the immigration officer your passport and the e-visa approval (a printout or a phone screen both work), and keep your hotel or host address and return ticket within reach. Officers commonly ask what brings you to Dubai, and they make the final call on entry.
Paid Work and Gambian Visit Visa Holders
Visit visas exclude employment. A Gambian offered a UAE job needs the employer to sponsor a work permit before travelling, and should be wary of anyone suggesting arrival as a tourist and job-hunting afterwards.
Earlier UAE Stays and Gambian Applicants
A Gambian who previously held UAE residence should confirm two things before applying: that the former visa was formally cancelled on departure, and that no fines or labour cases remain open. A forgotten record can hold up a new visit visa or cause questions on arrival, so mention any previous UAE residence when applying and let our team check it first.
Refused Gambian Applications and Second Attempts
Many refusals come from a blurred passport copy, names spelled differently from those in the passport, or an old unpaid fine. Our list of common causes of UAE visa refusal helps you put things right before reapplying, and the refund policy confirms that a refusal is not refunded.
Timing an Application From The Gambia
Book flights first, then apply, leaving a margin before departure because connections from Banjul run only a few days a week. Processing time varies by product and is stated on each one, and the priority processing service covers short-notice trips. The application number emailed after payment lets you follow progress on our visa status checker. If dates slip, ask us whether the approved visa still covers your new arrival. For help with routes, payment or family files, write to our support team; Dubai Visitor Visa replies on WhatsApp at any hour.
