From Yangon to Dubai: Visa Guide for Myanmar Nationals
Holders of a Myanmar passport get no arrival visa in the Emirates, so every Dubai visa for Myanmar travellers needs an emailed approval before they leave Yangon or Mandalay. Holidaymakers and relatives on family visits usually take the single-entry tourist visa covering 30 days, emailed as a PDF once issued.
Dubai Visa Rules for Myanmar Passport Holders
Myanmar is listed under visa-required nationalities on the foreign ministry's country-by-country entry list, alongside neighbours such as Thailand, Laos and Bangladesh. The Dubai visa requirements for Myanmar citizen applicants therefore start with an e-visa granted ahead of the trip. Living in Singapore, Japan or America changes nothing here, since that concession covers Indians and a handful of other nationalities only. In short, the UAE visa for Myanmar citizen travellers is always arranged before boarding.
Choosing a Dubai Visa Type From Myanmar
A Dubai tourist visa from Myanmar is selected by trip length and by any plans to leave and come back:
- Ten days to three weeks of sightseeing or visiting a cousin who works in Deira: the single-entry visa linked earlier.
- A month split with a short excursion to Doha: the multi-entry tourist permit for 30 days.
- Parents spending the cooler months with grown children employed across the city: a two-month visa for a single arrival or, with trips abroad planned, the two-month visa allowing several entries.
- Traders meeting suppliers in Deira's wholesale markets: the business permit lasting 14 days.
- Passengers pausing on a long itinerary with an eligible airline ticket: a 48-hour transit pass or a four-day transit visa.
Each one is a Dubai visit visa, equally valid for landing in Sharjah or the capital.
Documents Myanmar Applicants Upload
Each Dubai visa for Myanmar citizen applicants submit needs:
- Your Myanmar passport's personal details page, scanned sharply in colour; Dubai wants that passport to stay valid for six further months after touchdown.
- A fresh face photo on white, cropped to our Dubai visa photo measurements.
- Flight bookings out of the Emirates.
- A hotel booking, or the residential address and Emirates ID number of whichever relative is hosting you.
- Insurance that pays for treatment across the Emirates, as our visitor cover notes outline.
Myanmar names have no family surname, and passports often print the whole name, such as Aung Ko Ko, in one field while the other stays blank. Airlines apply strict rules to passports showing a single name, so check how yours is printed and ask our team before applying if either field is empty. Each child needs a separate application of their own.
Myanmar Passport Types: PV and PJ
Myanmar issues different ordinary passports by purpose: the PV passport for visits and the PJ passport for overseas employment. Use a PV passport for a holiday or family trip, and renew it first if it is close to expiry, because an approval stays attached to the passport number used. Myanmar citizens resident in Dubai can raise renewal questions with the consulate.
Departure Checks at Yangon for Myanmar Travellers
Immigration officers at Yangon International Airport have turned back travellers, mostly adults under about 35, whose documents did not match the stated purpose of the trip, such as a PV passport paired with a work visa. Men of military-service age face the closest scrutiny, and rules have changed several times since conscription was reintroduced, so check the latest position shortly before travelling. Carry the printed e-visa, a confirmed return ticket, accommodation details and evidence of funds, and travel only for the purpose your visa states.
Fees and Processing Time for Myanmar Applications
The visa fee is billed in US dollars to a bank card. Many Myanmar-issued cards cannot make overseas online payments, so a card held abroad or by a relative is often easier; ask us if payment fails. The Dubai visa processing time listed on each visa card is a maximum of four working days; even so, apply around three weeks before flying in case extra checks are needed. Follow your file in our status lookup tool, then save the approved Dubai e-visa to a phone folder and pack a printout. Travellers with only days to spare can use our same-week express service where eligible.
Flights From Myanmar to Dubai
No airline currently flies Myanmar to Dubai nonstop. Myanmar Airways International has scheduled a direct Yangon service of about six and a quarter hours, four times a week, starting in early December, so check its timetable before booking. Until then, most itineraries connect in Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Guangzhou, with onward flights to Dubai on Emirates, flydubai or partner carriers. Travellers flying out of Mandalay usually connect through Bangkok instead. Buy one through ticket where possible, so the carrier must rebook you if an early flight runs late.
Transit Rules on Connecting Routes for Myanmar Passports
ASEAN hubs such as Singapore and Kuala Lumpur generally admit Myanmar passport holders for short stays without a visa, but a self-transfer between Bangkok's two airports means passing Thai immigration, so check entry rules if your connection switches airports. Chinese hubs have their own transit regulations, so confirm them with the airline before booking.
Time Difference Between Myanmar and Dubai
Myanmar keeps UTC+6:30 and Dubai UTC+4, and neither uses daylight saving, so Dubai runs two and a half hours behind Yangon. Late-night connections often land in Dubai the next morning, which must fall within the entry dates shown on your visa.
Planning a Dubai Visit From Myanmar by Season
Dubai's pleasant months run from November to March, which fits the cool season at home, while the long school break before the June term start suits families travelling together. The Thingyan water festival in mid-April is a popular time for family trips, as is the Thadingyut break in October, so book visas and seats early for those weeks. From June to September Dubai is very hot, and outings centre on malls and indoor attractions.
Myanmar Business Visitors in Dubai
Importers from Yangon and Mandalay come to Dubai to buy phones, fabrics and homeware for shops back home, and Deira's wholesale districts are a common first stop. Supplier meetings, sourcing visits and exhibitions suit the business visa, but accepting paid work requires an employer-arranged permit.
Customs Rules for Myanmar Visitors
Passengers arriving in Dubai must declare cash, jewellery or gemstones whose combined value tops AED 60,000. Traditional remedies and prescription medicines can contain substances controlled in the Emirates, so keep them in labelled packs with a prescription and seek approval from health regulators for any controlled drug. Our rundown of Dubai airport restrictions lists items to leave at home. The kyat is rarely exchanged abroad, so carry US dollars, which Dubai exchange houses convert into dirhams.
Myanmar Nationals in Singapore, Japan and the United States
Citizens of Myanmar working or studying in Singapore, Japan or the United States apply online like everyone else, entering their current country as residence. Myanmar does not allow dual citizenship, so former nationals who naturalised abroad travel on their new passport instead; Singaporean, Japanese and American passports need no visa arranged ahead, as covered for Singapore citizens, Japanese passport holders and US travellers.
Myanmar Families in Dubai Hosting Relatives
Many Myanmar nationals work in Dubai and invite parents or siblings for holidays, each guest on a separate Dubai visit visa for Myanmar application. For a visiting mother, father, husband, wife or child, the host must earn a minimum of AED 4,000 per month; siblings, grandparents and other second- or third-degree relatives call for AED 8,000, and a tenancy contract usually proves accommodation. Family members moving to Dubai for good need residence sponsorship instead, described in our family visa explainer for Dubai.
Work Rules for Myanmar Visitors
Visit status never permits a salaried job. Lawful employment in the Emirates depends on a permit secured by the employer, outlined in our Emirates work permit primer, and Myanmar's own rules require a PJ passport and an Overseas Worker Identification Card for jobs abroad.
Extensions and Overstays for Myanmar Visitors
Staying longer than planned? Arrange a Dubai visa extension through our team ahead of the expiry date, either an added month without leaving Dubai or a further 60 days arranged locally, according to the visa you hold. Each overstayed day costs AED 50 with no grace period, as our guide to Dubai overstay fines details.
Myanmar Consular Help in Dubai and Abu Dhabi
Myanmar's consulate general sits in Mazaya Business Avenue, Al Thanyah Fifth, Dubai (+971 4 285 9933), while the embassy is based in Abu Dhabi. Contact the consulate about passports and emergencies, and if a passport goes missing, obtain a Dubai Police loss certificate before seeking a replacement.
