Your Dubai E-Visa, Filed From Accra, London or New York
Travellers on an ordinary Ghanaian passport need a UAE e-visa issued before they fly, and the application runs entirely online, from Accra, Kumasi, London or New York alike. For a first holiday or a family visit, most people open the 30-day single-entry e-visa, choose Ghana as their nationality and upload their passport page and a photograph. If you want the full picture of rules, costs and documents first, our complete Dubai visa guide for Ghanaians sets it all out. Applicants living in the UK or US, dual nationals, stopover passengers and business travellers each have one extra point to check before choosing a card.
Picking a Dubai E-Visa Card as a Ghanaian Traveller
Each card on this page is a separate product with its own stay length, entry type and current price in US dollars. Match the card to the trip rather than the other way round:
| Your trip | Card to open | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Holiday, shopping or a family occasion of up to a month | 30-day single entry | One arrival, one departure, simplest file |
| A month with a side trip out of the UAE | 30-day multiple entry | Lets you leave and come back on the same visa |
| Long stay with relatives, such as over the Christmas season | 60-day single entry | Two months in one continuous visit |
| Two months with trips in and out | 60-day multiple entry | Longest stay with re-entry flexibility |
| Meetings, a trade show or a conference | 14-day business visa | Short, purpose-built for business visits |
| Changing planes in Dubai and stepping out | 48- or 96-hour transit visa | Covers a short break on the way elsewhere |
Unsure between two cards? Pick the shorter stay if it genuinely covers your dates. Paying for 60 days when you need 20 buys nothing extra, and a mismatch with your flight reservation can prompt questions. Field-by-field form help is in our Dubai visa application form walkthrough.
What Our Visa Team Handles for Ghanaian Applicants
A tourist e-visa for the UAE is issued through a sponsor. When you apply here, that part is arranged for you and Dubai Visitor Visa submits the file through licensed UAE channels. The practical side looks like this:
- A consultant checks every passport scan, photo and form entry before submission, so a blurred image or a mistyped passport number is caught early. Taking the photo at home? Check the UAE visa photo rules first.
- Family members and friends can be added to one application before payment.
- Your application ID arrives by email the moment payment is confirmed, and the visa status tracker updates as the file moves.
- The approved e-visa is sent to your inbox, ready to save and print.
- Eligible urgent files can move to express handling at a higher price when departure is close.
- The support desk answers on WhatsApp around the clock, weekends and public holidays included.
What we cannot do is decide the outcome. Approval rests with UAE immigration, which is why accurate details matter more than speed. If a previous application was refused, read the usual causes of Dubai visa refusals before reapplying.
Applying From the UK or US on a Ghanaian Passport
Many applicants holding Ghanaian passports live in Britain or America. Your country of residence does not change the visa you need, because the UAE looks at the passport you travel on. A UK residence permit, a US visa or green card does not open a visa-on-arrival route for Ghanaian nationals, so the e-visa is still required. Ghanaian students in Britain on a study visa follow exactly the same rule.
In the form, select Ghana as your nationality and the UK or US as your country of residence. Keep your time zone in mind when checking entry dates: the UAE is four hours ahead of London in winter and three in summer, and eight or nine hours ahead of New York depending on the season.
Ghanaian Dual Nationals With British or American Passports
Ghana allows dual citizenship, and it can make the visa unnecessary. British and American passports both qualify for a UAE visa on arrival, so a Ghanaian who also holds one of them can usually travel on that passport instead. The rules for each are set out in our guides for British passport holders visiting Dubai and American travellers heading to the UAE.
Whichever passport you pick, use it consistently for the flight booking, check-in and immigration. Arriving on a British passport after booking on a Ghanaian one can cause problems at check-in or immigration.
Ghanaians Living in the UAE or Elsewhere in the Gulf
A Ghanaian with a valid UAE residence visa is a resident, not a visitor, and simply returns on that residence. Ghanaians resident in another GCC state are in a different position. They can use the UAE's eVisa for GCC residents, as described on the UAE government portal, if their residence permit stays valid for twelve months or more after arrival, their passport has six months left and the profession on their permit is on the approved list. That eVisa gives 30 days in the country plus one 30-day extension.
Gulf residents who fall short of those conditions, for example because the permit renews within the year, apply for a tourist card instead, selecting their Gulf country of residence in the form. The GCC-resident eVisa explainer covers the profession check in more depth.
Flying Out of Ghana From Kotoka With Your E-Visa
Emirates is the only airline flying nonstop from Accra to Dubai, and the flight takes roughly eight and a half hours. Ghana runs on GMT all year, so Dubai is four hours ahead. The morning service from Accra arrives the same evening, while an evening departure from Kotoka lands in Dubai the next morning, and that arrival date is the one that must fall inside the entry window printed on your visa. The difference between that window and your permitted stay is explained in how Dubai visa validity works.
Airline staff in Accra check travel documents before issuing a boarding pass, so have the approved e-visa printed and saved on your phone, alongside the passport it was issued against. Connecting itineraries through another hub, such as Addis Ababa, work the same way: expect the UAE visa to be checked when you first check in.
Arriving at Dubai International on a Ghanaian Passport
At the immigration desk, you present the passport the visa was issued against. The e-visa is linked to it electronically, but keep your printed copy to hand in case an officer asks. Have your hotel address or host's contact details ready, along with your return or onward booking, as officers can ask about the purpose and length of your stay.
An approved visa lets you travel, but entry itself is always at the discretion of the officer at the border. Consistent answers that match the submitted application rarely cause any problems. First-time visitors from smaller cities such as Tamale or Takoradi go through exactly the same process as anyone flying out of Accra.
Dubai Transit Options on the Way Beyond Ghana
Dubai is a common connection point for Ghanaian passengers heading to Asia or elsewhere in the Middle East. If you stay inside the airport between flights, no UAE visa is needed. To step outside during the layover, you need a transit visa arranged in advance, backed by a confirmed onward ticket to a third country.
- The 48-hour transit visa for Dubai covers an overnight connection or a single day in the city.
- The 96-hour transit option allows up to four days before the onward flight.
Your onward airline may also check that you meet the entry rules of your final destination. Neither transit visa can be extended, so if the stopover might grow into a holiday, choose a tourist card from the start.
Business Trips and Job Offers: Limits of a Visit Visa for Ghanaians
Ghanaian professionals attending meetings, buying stock or visiting an exhibition can use the 14-day business visa. Paid work is a different matter. A visit or business visa does not permit employment, and a job in the UAE needs an employment visa arranged by the employer.
Ghanaian nationals applying for UAE employment visas now also need a police clearance certificate, authenticated by Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UAE Embassy in Accra. The requirement was announced for employment visas and is not among the documents requested for a tourist e-visa here. Our UAE work permit guide explains the employer-led process.
Filing Dubai Visas for a Ghanaian Family or Group
A family trip is filed as one application with a separate record for each traveller. Children need their own passport and photograph, even when they are listed alongside a parent. Add everyone before payment, and each person receives their own e-visa. Grandparents travelling from Ghana to see family in Dubai often need longer than a month, which is where the 60-day cards come in.
Mixed-nationality families should check each member's passport separately. A child born in the UK with British citizenship, for example, can enter on a visa on arrival while a Ghanaian parent still needs an e-visa. If relatives in the UAE are hosting you, a copy of their Emirates ID usually serves as the accommodation document for the whole group.
Returning Ghanaian Visitors: Previous Trips and Name Changes
If you have visited the UAE before, check that the earlier trip closed cleanly. An old overstay fine that was never settled, or an absconding report filed by a former employer, must be cleared before a new visit visa can be issued. A previous refusal does not bar you, but the new file should fix whatever caused it. If you are unsure whether an old fine is still outstanding, clear that question before paying for a new visa rather than discovering it through a refusal.
Names deserve the same care. If your surname changed after marriage, or your new passport spells a name differently from an old one, apply exactly as the current passport reads. The form, the flight booking and the hotel reservation should all carry that version.
Tracking a Ghanaian Visa Application After Submission
Once the application is in, watch your inbox and the status tracker rather than resubmitting. If the team needs a clearer scan, they will ask through the contact details on your application. When the e-visa arrives, compare the name, passport number, nationality and entry type against your passport before booking anything non-refundable.
The visa is tied to the passport number it was issued against. If your Ghanaian passport is renewed between approval and travel, contact support before flying rather than turning up at Kotoka with two different numbers. Lost the approval email? Recover it by following the steps to retrieve a UAE visa copy online.
Extending a Stay in the UAE on a Ghanaian Passport
Ghanaian visitors who need more time in Dubai can file a 30-day extension without leaving the country or a 60-day stay extension from within the UAE. Whether it is granted turns on the visa you entered with and your present immigration status, so file a few working days ahead of your final permitted day. Transit visa holders cannot use this route.
From 11 February 2026, every overstay day costs AED 50, counted from the first day past the permitted stay, and there is no grace period. The total is settled before departure, and an unpaid or large fine can follow you into your next application. Our guide to checking UAE overstay fines shows how to look one up.
