Dubai Visa From Kenya: Visit Visa Guide for Kenyan Passports

Kenyan citizens need a Dubai visit visa arranged before they fly, and for most people leaving Nairobi or Mombasa that means an e-visa requested online and emailed once approved. One group is different: Kenyans who hold residence in the United States, the United Kingdom, the EU or six other listed countries can now get a visa on landing in the UAE. For an ordinary holiday or a stay with relatives, most applicants pick the one-month, one-entry Dubai tourist visa; settle processing time, documents and flights before paying for anything non-refundable.

Do Kenyans Need a Visa for Dubai? Two Routes Into the UAE

Yes. Kenya is marked "visa required" on the UAE foreign ministry's entry list by nationality, so an ordinary Kenyan passport receives nothing automatically at the arrival desk. Residence decides which of the two routes you follow:

Your situationUAE entry route
Living in Kenya, or abroad without a qualifying permitDubai visit visa approved online before travel
Holding a valid residence permit or green card from America, Britain or an EU stateAirport-issued visa lasting 14 or 60 days
A resident of Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Australia or New ZealandSame airport-issued visa, 14 or 60 days
Working in Riyadh, Doha or Kuwait CityPossibly the visit route for Gulf residents

Kenyans Resident in America or Britain: The Arrival Visa Option

Kenya joined the UAE's residence-based arrival scheme alongside five other nationalities. Residence is what counts: an American tourist visa stamped in your passport does not qualify, while a green card or a British residence permit does. The shorter, 14-day version allows one extension without leaving, whereas the 60-day version is a one-stay permit that stays fixed at 60 days. Relatives travelling with you benefit only if they personally meet the same conditions. Kenyans in Houston or Manchester without such a permit apply online exactly as someone departing Nairobi would. Those who do qualify should bring the original residence card, since the arrival visa is assessed on it at the counter. South Africans received the same arrangement, as our page for South African travellers notes, while Tanzanian relatives apply under the separate guidance for Tanzanian passport holders.

Choosing a Dubai Visit Visa From Kenya

Decide the length of stay first. Then think about the itinerary: crossing out of the country and returning needs a multiple-entry visa, whereas driving between Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah does not.

Requirements to Travel to Dubai From Kenya

Kenyan applicants upload a short set of files:

  • the passport's bio-data page, in colour with every corner visible, from a Kenyan passport carrying six or more months of remaining validity on the day you reach Dubai;
  • a fresh portrait against a plain white backdrop, following our guide to UAE visa photo dimensions;
  • the flights you plan to take in and out;
  • details of your accommodation, either a hotel reservation or a relative's home address;
  • medical cover recognised by the UAE for every day of the visit, described in our UAE travel insurance explainer.

Copy names letter for letter from the passport, including middle names that booking sites sometimes shorten. Children need applications and photographs of their own. Our full list of Dubai visa requirements covers the occasional extra document.

Kenyan Passport Renewal and the Yellow Fever Card

Passports are applied for and renewed through Kenya's eCitizen portal, so begin early if yours is due to expire soon; a visa issued on an old passport cannot be moved to a new one. Kenya also appears among countries with yellow fever transmission risk, and UAE health rules expect arrivals aged nine months and above to carry proof of vaccination. Keep the original certificate in your cabin bag.

How to Apply for Your Dubai Visa From Kenya

  1. Open the form for the visa that matches your trip.
  2. Enter Kenya as nationality and give your real country of residence.
  3. Upload the passport scan, photo and supporting files.
  4. Pay online by card, with your bank turning the dollar charge into Kenya shillings.
  5. Follow progress on our Dubai visa status checker and save the e-visa once it lands in your inbox.

Carry a printout for the airline desk at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and keep a digital copy on your phone.

Dubai Visa Processing Time for Kenyan Applicants

Every visa card states its expected handling time, from one to four working days depending on the product. Submit at least a week ahead of your flight so there is room to fix a blurred scan or answer a follow-up request. If departure is only days away, the express Dubai visa service can shorten handling for eligible files, although the final decision always rests with UAE immigration.

Most delays from Kenya trace back to a handful of avoidable slips:

  • a photographed passport page with glare or cut-off edges;
  • a selfie-style portrait instead of a plain-background photo;
  • a middle name missing from the form but printed in the passport;
  • Kenya entered as residence by someone actually living in Dubai or Doha.

What a Dubai Visa From Kenya Costs in Shillings

Each visa card carries a dollar price, and the Kenya shilling total your card is finally charged reflects your bank's conversion rate on payment day. Longer stays and extra entries cost more than a single 30-day visa, as our breakdown of Dubai visa costs explains. Ask your bank to enable overseas online payments on the card before applying. Family applications are charged per traveller, and the combined total appears on screen before you confirm.

Flights From Nairobi and Mombasa to Dubai

Emirates, Kenya Airways and flydubai all fly nonstop between Jomo Kenyatta International and Dubai, with several departures daily and a block time of roughly five hours. From the coast, flydubai runs a nonstop service from Mombasa's Moi International Airport on most days, taking around five hours and twenty minutes. Travellers from Kisumu, Eldoret or Malindi generally connect through Nairobi.

Kenya and Dubai Time Difference

The Emirates sit one time zone east of Kenya, so Dubai shows 9am when Nairobi shows 8am. A late-evening departure can land after midnight in Dubai, so make sure that landing date sits inside the validity window printed on the e-visa.

Dubai Visa Agents in Kenya and Job Offers: Protecting Yourself

A visit visa suits holidays, relatives and brief business trips; salaried work is never allowed on it. Kenya's labour ministry has warned job seekers not to travel on visitor visas for promised jobs abroad, and it advises checking every overseas vacancy against the National Employment Authority's listings and register of licensed recruiters. Lawful employment in the Emirates begins with the hiring company obtaining your permit and residence visa, the process covered in our overview of UAE employment permits.

With any visa agent in Kenya, insist on the visa type and full price in writing, and never surrender your original passport for an e-visa, since none is needed.

Kenyan Residents of the UAE Hosting Family

Kenya's diplomatic presence in the Emirates includes its Abu Dhabi embassy plus a consulate in Dubai's Al Safa district, which deal with passports and emergencies for Kenyans living in the Emirates. Relatives flying in for a visit each submit a separate application, and the host's Emirates ID together with the lease agreement works as accommodation proof. A spouse or child moving over permanently follows the resident's sponsorship route instead, the subject of our page on Dubai family residence rules.

Extending a Dubai Visit Visa After Arriving From Kenya

Raise any change of plan before your final permitted day. Where the current visa allows it, the one-month extension processed within the UAE or the two-month extension without exit can spare you a flight home; the 60-day arrival visa for residents is the exception and cannot be extended. Overstaying adds AED 50 to a running fine for each extra day from the very first, payable at the airport on departure; see how the UAE calculates overstay penalties for the details. If a file is refused, go through the frequent causes of Dubai visa rejection before trying again.
