Visiting Dubai on a Ugandan Passport: Visa Options and Costs
Ugandan citizens travelling on an ordinary passport need a UAE visa arranged before they fly. Uganda is not on the visa-on-arrival list, and living in the UK, the US or Europe does not change that. For most holidays and family visits, the 30-day single-entry tourist visa is the natural fit, with 60-day and multiple-entry versions for longer or split trips. The visa is issued electronically, so there is no passport to hand in anywhere in Kampala. One thing needs checking first this season: new visas for Ugandan nationals were paused in June 2026, and the UAE announced an easing of that pause on 26 September 2026.
Can Ugandans Get a Dubai Visa Right Now?
From 6 June 2026, the UAE suspended new visas for Ugandan nationals, visit visas included, as a precaution during the Ebola outbreak. Entry was also restricted for anyone who had been in Uganda within the previous 21 days. On 26 September 2026, after Uganda's outbreak was declared over, the UAE announced it was easing these measures for Ugandan nationals. Uganda's foreign affairs minister said the change would follow a short preparedness visit by a UAE delegation, and no firm restart date for new visas had been published by the end of September.
Before paying, ask our visa support team whether Ugandan applications are being accepted that day, and hold off on non-refundable flights until your visa is approved. Our guide to UAE travel restrictions explains how entry rules differ from individual visa decisions.
Posts claiming a permanent UAE ban on all Ugandans have circulated since 2025. Apart from the temporary Ebola measure, no UAE notice supports a permanent ban on Ugandan passport holders. Applications are assessed one by one, which is why a clean, consistent file makes the biggest difference.
Picking the Right UAE Visit Visa for Your Trip From Uganda
Start with two questions: how many nights will you actually spend in the country, and will you leave and come back during the trip? The answers narrow the choice fast.
| Visa option | Stay allowed | Entries | Usually suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30-day single entry | Up to 30 days | One | Holidays, family visits, shopping trips |
| 30-day multiple entry | Up to 30 days | Several | A trip with a side journey out of the country and back |
| 60-day single entry | Up to 60 days | One | Long stays with relatives, one continuous visit |
| 60-day multiple entry | Up to 60 days | Several | Longer stays with trips in and out |
| 14-day business visa | Up to 14 days | As shown on the issued visa | Meetings, exhibitions, conferences |
| 48-hour or 96-hour transit | 48 or 96 hours | One | A stopover on the way to a third country |
Every option on this list is valid across all seven emirates, so a visa labelled Dubai also covers a day in Abu Dhabi or Sharjah. Multiple entry only earns its higher price if you will genuinely leave and return, for example flying home to Entebbe for a family event halfway through a long stay.
Dubai Visa Cost for Travellers Paying From Uganda
Price follows two things: stay length and entry type. A 60-day visa costs more than a 30-day one, and multiple entry costs more than single entry for the same length. Business and transit visas are priced on their own. The current Dubai Visitor Visa price for each option is shown on its visa card on this page in US dollars, so compare the cards side by side and review the checkout total before you pay. The same cards apply to Ugandan passport holders living in Uganda, the UAE or the UK.
Paying with a card issued in Uganda means the shilling amount on your statement depends on your bank's exchange rate on the day and any foreign-transaction charge it applies. For a broader breakdown of what moves the price between visa types, see our Dubai visa cost explainer.
Documents Ugandan Passport Holders Upload
The core file is short. Four items cover a standard tourist application:
- A clear scan of the bio page of an ordinary Ugandan passport valid for at least six months from your date of entry, the minimum set out on the UAE government portal.
- A recent colour photograph against a plain white background, with your face fully visible.
- Flight details for the trip. A reservation or itinerary is enough at this stage; buy the ticket once the visa is approved.
- Where you will stay: a hotel booking, or a copy of the Emirates ID of the relative or friend hosting you.
Each traveller, including children, needs a separate passport scan and photograph. Additional documents can be requested on a case-by-case basis, so keep an eye on your email and phone for the first few days after applying. Our visitor visa requirements guide covers the fuller checklist for unusual situations.
Passport and Photo Checks Before a Ugandan Application Goes In
Small slips can stall an otherwise complete file. Photograph the full bio page in one frame, with no finger, glare or folded paper covering the machine-readable lines at the bottom. Type your names exactly as printed, including any middle name, because the flight booking and the visa need to match at check-in.
Recently renewed passport? Use the new passport number everywhere, including the airline booking. Studio photos from Kampala are fine as long as the background is white and nothing has been edited or filtered. The UAE visa photo size rules set out the exact dimensions if you are taking the picture yourself.
How to Apply for a Dubai Visa From Uganda
You do not need an appointment with a UAE mission in Kampala for a visit visa. The whole process runs online:
- Select Uganda as your citizenship and the country where you live, then open the visa card that matches your trip.
- Fill in the form with your passport details. It usually takes less than ten minutes, and it also asks for your profession and education, so have those ready.
- Travelling with family or friends? Add the other travellers on the next step, before payment, so the files are handled together.
- Upload the photo and passport scan, check the summary and pay.
- A consultant reviews the file before it reaches the UAE immigration authority.
- Follow progress with the application ID from your acknowledgement email on the online visa status tracker.
- Once approved, save the e-visa on your phone and print one copy for check-in at Entebbe and arrival in the UAE.
For more detail on each stage, read the full Dubai visa application walkthrough. If the approval email lands in spam or you misplace it later, the steps for downloading a UAE visa copy will help.
Processing Time and Flight Timing Between Uganda and Dubai
Standard files usually take a few working days once the documents and payment are complete, and each visa card shows its current estimate. For a trip at short notice, the express visa service gives eligible files priority handling. Express costs more, so keep it for genuine urgency. Neither route can promise approval or a fixed decision time, since the final decision rests with UAE immigration.
A practical rhythm is to apply once your dates are firm, about one to two weeks before departure. That leaves room for a document request without last-minute pressure.
Direct flights from Entebbe to Dubai take roughly five and a half hours, and the UAE runs one hour ahead of Uganda. Check the last date to enter shown on your visa against the arrival time of your flight in UAE local time, not Kampala time. This matters most on late-night departures from Entebbe that land after midnight. Our explainer on how Dubai visa validity is counted separates the window for entering from the length of the stay itself.
Dubai Visa Rules When You Live in the UK on a Ugandan Passport
Your passport, not your departure country, decides which visa you need. A Ugandan passport holder with UK residence still needs a visa arranged before travel. When the UAE widened visa on arrival in June 2026 for some nationalities holding UK, US or EU residence permits, Uganda was not among the countries added.
Apply the same way as travellers in Uganda, choosing the United Kingdom as your place of residence in the form. Direct flights from London take around seven hours, and UK time is three hours behind the UAE in summer and four in winter, which matters when you check that last entry date.
Dual nationals have a simpler option. If you also hold a British passport, you can use the UAE visa on arrival open to UK citizens, so you may not need to apply at all. Use that same passport to book, check in and pass immigration, and keep it for the return journey too.
Extending a Visit Visa Inside the UAE
Ugandans already in the UAE on a tourist visa can often add time without flying out. The 30-day inside-country extension and the 60-day extension option are filed while you stay in the country. Eligibility depends on the visa you currently hold and your immigration status, so start the request several working days before your permitted stay ends, not on the final day. Transit visas cannot be extended. Our visa extension guide explains how the timing works.
UAE Overstay Fines Start on Day One
There is no grace period after a visit visa ends. Since 11 February 2026, overstaying costs a flat AED 50 for each day, counted from the first day after your permitted stay. Fines have to be cleared before you can leave, and an unresolved overstay can complicate future applications. If your plans change, extend early or book the flight home. The UAE overstay fine checker shows how to look up and pay an existing fine.
Transit and Business Visas Through the UAE
Changing planes at Dubai International without leaving the airport does not require a visa. If you want to step out during a stopover on your way to a third country, a 48-hour transit visa suits an overnight break, while a 96-hour transit visa allows a few days in the city. Both need a confirmed onward ticket and are single-entry.
For meetings, trade fairs or a conference, the 14-day Dubai business visa fits a short, fixed trip. It does not allow paid work. A job offer needs an employment route arranged by the employer, not a visit visa.
Keeping a Ugandan Application Clear of Refusal Risks
Each file is judged on its own details, so consistency counts. Run these checks before submitting:
- Names, dates of birth and passport numbers match across the form, the flight reservation and the hotel booking.
- The visa length fits the itinerary you upload.
- Any earlier UAE overstay or open case is settled before you apply again.
- A host's Emirates ID copy is sharp and fully legible.
Visa and service fees are not refunded if an application is refused, and cancelling after submission is not refundable either, as set out in our refund policy. That is one more reason to confirm the current position for Ugandan passports before paying. If you have been refused before, the guide to common Dubai visa rejection reasons helps you fix the weak point first.
Visa Waiver for Ugandan Diplomatic and Service Passports
Since February 2026, holders of Ugandan diplomatic and service passports can visit the UAE without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period under a bilateral waiver. The waiver does not cover ordinary passports, which still need a visa before travel.
