Travelling to Dubai From Bahrain: Citizens, Residents and Visas

Bahraini citizens do not need a visa for Dubai. As GCC nationals, they enter the UAE on a valid Bahraini passport or smart ID card, with nothing to apply for in advance. The answer is different for the many foreign nationals who live and work in Bahrain: a residence permit there does not give automatic entry, so they need a UAE visa approved before departure, either the GCC-resident eVisa or a standard 30-day UAE tourist visa. Non-Bahraini spouses and domestic staff travelling with a Bahraini family have a separate route of their own.

Bahraini Citizen, Resident or Family Member: Which Dubai Entry Route Applies

Find the row that describes the traveller, not the household. A family of four can easily need three different answers.

Bahraini Citizens Travel to Dubai Without a Visa

Holders of Bahraini nationality can ignore the visa cards on this page for their own trip. The UAE accepts the state-issued smart ID card of GCC citizens as a travel document, so a short break in Dubai does not strictly require a passport. Many travellers still carry one, because any onward flight outside the Gulf will need it. Whichever document you use must be valid on the travel date.

Frequent trips do not change anything. There is no tourist visa to renew and no multiple-entry product to buy, as our note on repeat Dubai trips for GCC nationals explains. A visa only comes into play when someone travelling with you is not a GCC citizen.

Flying or Driving From Bahrain to Dubai

Direct flights from Bahrain International Airport reach Dubai in a little over an hour, and the UAE is one hour ahead of Bahrain, so an evening departure lands later on the clock than it feels. Some airlines also fly into nearby Sharjah.

Driving is possible but long. The road leaves Bahrain over the King Fahd Causeway and crosses Saudi Arabia before reaching the UAE border. Bahraini citizens pass through both borders on GCC documents. Expat residents need permission to enter Saudi Arabia as well as a UAE visa, so most of them fly.

Dubai Visas for Non-Bahraini Spouses, Children and Domestic Staff

Mixed-nationality households are the main case where a Bahraini family needs a visa at all. A foreign spouse, a child on another passport, or a domestic worker living with the family in Bahrain can use the UAE entry visa for accompanying persons of GCC nationals, as long as they hold a valid GCC residence permit. They are expected to travel with the Bahraini head of the family or another family member, although officers at the border can waive that at their discretion. If the Bahraini family member cannot be on the same flight, get advice before booking, since that waiver is never automatic.

The file is short: a recent colour photograph on a white background, a copy of a passport valid for at least six months, and a copy of the residence permit or an electronic extract showing profession and validity. Apply before the trip, not at the airport.

Relatives flying in from outside the Gulf to meet you in Dubai, such as grandparents travelling from abroad, do not qualify for this route. They need a standard tourist visa based on their own passport, and the online Dubai visa application lets them choose their nationality and home country before picking a visa.

Dubai Visa for Expats Living in Bahrain: The GCC-Resident eVisa

Foreign nationals with Bahraini residence cannot get a visa on arrival on the strength of that residence. The UAE instead offers an eVisa for GCC residents, which must be approved before you travel. The UAE government's guidance for GCC residents sets the time limits, and the immigration authority adds a profession check:

  • Your Bahrain residence permit must stay valid for at least one year from the date you arrive in the UAE.
  • Your passport must be valid for at least six months from arrival.
  • The profession on your residence record must fall within the approved list, which the UAE immigration authority assesses case by case.
  • The entry permit is valid for 30 days from issue, allows a 30-day stay, and can be extended once for another 30 days.

Family members and domestic workers who live with you in Bahrain can use the same route. Apply once your dates are fixed, because the 30-day window to enter starts on the day the eVisa is issued, not the day you land. Your Bahrain CPR card on its own is not a UAE travel document for expats, whatever its expiry date. For worked examples, read our GCC-resident eVisa guide.

When a Bahrain Resident Needs a Standard Tourist Visa Instead

Plenty of expats in Bahrain fall outside the resident route. Typical reasons include a residence permit that expires within the next year, a job title that is not on the approved list, or a trip that needs more flexibility than 30 days plus one extension. Then a standard tourist visa based on your passport is the practical answer:

Not sure your job title will pass the profession check? A tourist visa avoids depending on it.

Indian Passport Holders: Check Visa on Arrival First

Indian nationals form one of the largest expat communities in Bahrain, and some of them need no advance visa at all. An Indian passport valid for at least six months qualifies for a 14-day visa on arrival, extendable once for another 14 days, when the traveller also holds one of the following: a valid US visa or green card, a UK or EU visa or residence permit, or a residence permit from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore or South Korea. The qualifying visa or residence permit generally needs at least six months of validity left, and a visa-on-arrival fee is paid at the airport.

A Bahrain residence permit does not count toward this, and neither does a residence permit from any other Gulf country. Without one of the listed documents, choose between the GCC-resident eVisa and a tourist visa as set out above. Our Dubai visa guide for Indian citizens covers the arrival route in more detail, and the UAE visa-on-arrival rules list who else qualifies.

Pakistani Passport Holders: Arranging the Visa Before You Fly

Pakistani nationals have no visa-on-arrival option in the UAE, so the visa must be approved before check-in at Bahrain International Airport. Residents who meet the profession and residence-validity conditions can use the GCC-resident eVisa; everyone else applies for a tourist visa. Each family member on a Pakistani passport, children included, needs an application of their own. Enter your name exactly as it appears on the passport's photo page, and keep the flight reservation and hotel booking in that same spelling.

An earlier UAE overstay, an absconding report or an unpaid fine needs to be resolved before a new application goes in. Our rundown of common reasons Dubai visas are refused covers the other weak spots worth fixing first. The UAE visa guide for Pakistani citizens goes through document preparation for Pakistani passports in full.

Dubai Visit Visa Price From Bahrain

For Bahraini citizens, the price is zero, because no visa is involved. For expat residents, the cost depends on which route you use. Tourist visas are priced by length and by entry type, with multiple entry and 60-day stays costing more, and the current amount for each is listed in US dollars on the matching visa card further down. The GCC-resident eVisa and the accompanying-person visa carry separate government fees, so ask our visa team what applies if either route fits your case.

Cards issued in Bahrain are charged in dollars and converted into dinars by your bank, which may add its own foreign-transaction fee. Dubai Visitor Visa shows the checkout total before any payment is taken. The breakdown of Dubai visa costs shows how each visa type is priced.

Applying From Manama: Documents and Steps for Bahrain Residents

A tourist visa application from Bahrain needs four things: a clear scan of your passport's photo page, a recent colour photograph on a plain white background, flight details for the trip, and proof of where you will stay, such as a hotel booking or the Emirates ID of the person hosting you. A host's ID copy should be current and easy to read. For flights, a reservation will do until the visa comes through. Anything beyond these four is covered in our full list of visitor visa requirements.

In the form, select your passport nationality as citizenship and Bahrain as the country you live in, then open the matching visa card. Filling it in takes around ten minutes, and extra travellers such as a spouse or children are added before payment. Every file is checked by a consultant ahead of submission to UAE immigration, and the application ID in your acknowledgement email works with the Dubai visa status checker. If a photo is rejected, the visa photo requirements show exactly what to fix.

How Long a Dubai Visa Takes for Bahrain-Based Travellers

Standard tourist visas are normally decided within several working days of a complete file and payment, and the estimate for each option sits on its card. For a trip booked at short notice, express visa processing is available for eligible files at a higher price. No option can promise approval or a set decision time, since the decision belongs to UAE immigration.

Because the flight is so short, residents often plan Dubai around a long weekend. Apply at least a week ahead so a request for an extra document does not eat into the trip, and make sure your outbound flight lands before the entry deadline printed on the visa.

Extensions and Overstay Rules for Bahrain Residents in Dubai

Plans sometimes stretch, particularly on family visits. The GCC-resident eVisa can be extended once by 30 days. Tourist visa holders can look at the 30-day extension filed inside the UAE or the 60-day extension service; neither requires leaving the country. Eligibility depends on your current visa and status, so start a few working days before the stay runs out. Our walkthrough of UAE visit visa extensions covers eligibility by visa type.

Leaving late is expensive. Since 11 February 2026, the UAE charges a flat AED 50 per day of overstay, starting on the first day after the permitted stay, with no grace period. The fine must be paid before departure, and it can complicate your next application. See how to check and settle one in our UAE overstay fine guide.

Choosing and Booking Your UAE Visa From Bahrain

Citizens of Bahrain are ready to travel as they are. Expat residents should confirm their route with the table at the top, then choose a visa card or ask Dubai Visitor Visa support which option fits their passport and profession. Support answers on weekends and public holidays too, and our refund terms are published in full, including the rule that fees are not returned if immigration refuses an application.
