Holidaymakers, shoppers and relatives visiting family from Monrovia mostly choose a single-entry tourist visa lasting one month. Two Liberia-specific details shape the rest of the trip: the yellow fever certificate that UAE health rules ask of travellers from West Africa, and the change of plane that every journey from Roberts International Airport involves.
Is a Visa Needed for Dubai on a Liberian Passport?
They do. The Republic of Liberia is marked "visa required" in the UAE foreign ministry's register of entry conditions, and Liberians are not offered a visa at the arrival counter. Airlines leaving Monrovia check the approved e-visa before printing a boarding pass.
Lists of "banned nationalities" circulate regularly on social media, but the UAE publishes no such list and Liberian applications are being accepted. The health-related entry restrictions currently in force concern DR Congo and South Sudan, not Liberia.
Liberian Passport Renewal at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
UAE immigration wants six clear months of passport life beyond the day you arrive. Renewals and new biometric Liberia-ECOWAS passports are handled by the Division of Passports and Visas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Capitol Hill, Monrovia. The process includes document submission, a scheduled interview and payment at the ministry's designated cashier window, and the ministry quotes collection seven to ten working days after payment. Start early if your passport is near the six-month line.
Yellow Fever Certificates for Travellers Flying From Liberia
The UAE asks travellers aged nine months or over to show proof of yellow fever vaccination when they arrive from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission, and Liberia falls into that group. The same requirement applies to anyone who has spent more than twelve hours in transit at an airport in such a country.
Carry the original International Certificate of Vaccination, the yellow card, in your hand luggage alongside the passport. Check that the vaccination date is recorded properly and that the name matches your passport, since a mismatch can mean questions at the health desk. Keep the yellow card together with the printed e-visa and onward ticket, because officers may ask for any of the three at Dubai.
Dubai Visa Application From Liberia: Documents and Payment
Choose the visa, select Liberia as nationality and upload these files:
- a sharp image of the passport's photo page with nothing covering the text;
- a recent colour photo on white, framed as our UAE photo specifications require;
- the planned flights to and from the UAE;
- a hotel reservation, or the home address of whoever is hosting you;

Flights From Monrovia to Dubai via Addis Ababa, Nairobi or Accra
No airline flies nonstop between Liberia and the UAE. Roberts International Airport sits about 56 kilometres outside Monrovia, so allow for the drive, and expect one change of plane. Ethiopian Airlines connects through Addis Ababa and Kenya Airways through Nairobi, while short regional flights to Accra link with Emirates' nonstop service from Ghana to Dubai. Some services from Monrovia also touch down briefly in Freetown or Accra before heading to their hub, which adds time without needing a visa as long as you stay on board.
Book the full journey on one ticket wherever possible. With separate tickets you may need to reclaim luggage and enter the transit country to check in again, and a long layover there can bring the twelve-hour transit rule for yellow fever into play.
Liberia and Dubai Time Difference
Liberia keeps Greenwich Mean Time all year, which puts Dubai four hours ahead. Many connections arrive overnight or early in the morning, so confirm the landing date sits within the entry period shown on your UAE e-visa.
Liberians in the United States and Ghana Still Apply Before Flying
A recent UAE scheme issues arrival visas to six nationalities who reside in the US, Britain, EU states or a few more named countries, and Liberia was not included. Liberians in Minnesota, Rhode Island or Pennsylvania therefore apply online on their Liberian passports even with a green card. A US visa in a Liberian passport does not unlock airport entry either, unlike the arrangement Indian nationals enjoy. Because Liberian law now allows dual citizenship, many families hold both passports; book, enter and leave on the same one.

Liberia has a consulate general in Business Bay, Dubai, which lists passport renewal among its services, useful for residents whose documents expire during a contract. When relatives come to visit, each person applies separately, and the resident's Emirates ID scan plus tenancy agreement serves as accommodation proof. When a Liberian Visitor Needs More Time or Gets a Refusal
Ask for extra time before the last permitted day. A 30-day extension applied for within the UAE can spare you a flight out if your current visa qualifies. Leaving the UAE closes a single-entry visa for good, so plan any second visit on a new application or pick multiple entry right from the start.
